Logic Pro iPad / Faderfox EC4 / Surface Builder
I’m new to Logic Pro for iPad. I’d like to use my EC4 to control parameters on various plugins within a track.
From what I can tell:
- MIDI learn seems limited to certain parameters on some internal plug-ins.
- MIDI learn works for some external Audio Units (e.g. Korg Berlin), whereas others seem to hide the learn option once hosted in Logic Pro (King of FM)
- The Modifier PlugIn lets you map external MIDI to any internal plug in parameter, but only one parameter at a time (!) within an instance
- There are scripting options
I’m hoping to use a series of groups on the EC4 to control many parameters on different plug ins on a track.
I’m wondering if 4Pockets Surface Builder (or some alternative) would help, consolidating most of the setup in one place? (And then creating templates etc). Any thoughts / anyone with experience in this?

I don't know the answer for this regarding Logic Pro, but I'm sure that it will lie in the area of learning how to control AUv3 Parameters from hardware midi input. The difference between AUv3 parameter control and midi learn in apps is with parameter control, the host takes care of moving the controls. Your midi controller will need to send to whatever Logic Pro's way of doing that, rather than to the midi learn system in apps.
Surface builder won't be any help. It has the mind-boggling limitation that if you create a control in it, then you change that control's value from an external controller it doesn't send midi out from the control (!). It's utterly useless as a middle-man between controllers and anything else.
From a glance at the manual, you might get somewhere by accessing the Automation Parameter pop-up menu, which lists all the parameters that can be automated on that track.

I hope they make Logic Remote available for the iPad version...

OK thats v useful to know (I was hoping it might also help with representing / visualising / mapping the physical layout of each plug in to the corresponding 4 x 4 encoder / button matrix for each group, reducing the reliance on labelling the EC4)
OK thats useful - will explore that.
Yes - I read that - I’ll give that a go - thanks
