Start here: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/harmony-bloom/id6480587217 and Mario’s other app Chord Generator.

You might also like Scaler 2 but may want to wait a few weeks for Scaler 3

Oh yes thanks, I have Harmony Bloom on desktop and forgot it's also IOS

  • you didn't have a Drum Fun category but Octachron is all kinds of fun there--with an update soon that should expand its seq fun capabilities

I find Loopy's midi controller builder to be so so much fun. lately spending more time making templates for different synths/drum machines and 'macro control' mixer pages for AUM than making music...

for sequencing basslines, Pure Acid is a treat

  • Piano Motifs [https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/piano-motifs/id1506065573] is essential. Incredibly useful for many things, and also for piano music.

Octachron looks interesting, especially the fact that it seems to be able to parameter lock cc's on per step basis.
What's Loopy's midi controller builder? I had a quick search but couldn't find anything, is a new MIDI feature in Loopy?

  • Cykle!

The developer is also very active and always updating the app with new features. Along with TATAT and Drambo it's the MIDI generator I use most often.

For custom controllers, I would love to be able to recommend Surface Builder except for one huge flaw. You can create nice control surfaces in an AUv3 format, but it's useless as a "Middle Man" between a hardware controller and other apps. For some reason I an't fathom, if you midi learn a controller to move one of it's knobs or other controls, it doesn't send midi from the control surface knob. Weird.

You asked about Loopy Pro as a surface controller. In addition to its looping and DAW capabilities, Loopy has a number of "Widgets" that can send midi just like other control surface apps like TouchOSC. It's quite powerful and fun to use. It doesn't suffer from the same disfunction with external controllers as Surface Builder.

  • GlitchStep is (for me) the ultimate sequencing fun.

  • Strokes is a bit brain melty for me but might be fun....
