Hey! Brazilian Song and introductions

The song

So, yesterday I recorded this video of me playing a song called "Vem, Morena", by a brazilian folk artist from the 1950s, the legendary Luiz Gonzaga.

The lyrics talk about lewd play and dancing to the style of music he's playing, called forró. It's a very traditional rhythm from the region I come from. It's played through an entire month of festivities in June called Saint John's Party.

It's pretty cool.

Hey, everyone

I'm Ayrton from sunny Recife, by the Northeast Coast of Brazil. I was a bass player doing live gigs in my 20s, then covid came along in my early 30s and I began writing music and producing during all of my spare time. I released a bunch of music on streaming platforms, several music videos on YouTube and eventually worked on several projects and also a production house in 2023.

LoopyPro

So, I've been using this great piece of software since March 2024.
I had done live looping before, with Ableton Live but that setup was really cumbersome and not portable at all.

I have gone through countless different setups for LoopyPro. I'm always starting a new one from scratch to see how I can improve the previous iteration. I think I like the way I've set it up this time.

Looking forward to version 2.0, so I can finally stop redoing takes when I can't get the beat right in the first try

Gear

In this video I'm using an iPad Air 5, a Motu M4, a Keith McMillan Soft Step and a good old Akai MPK Mini Mk 3, an SM 57, and a Pod Go. The guitar is custom made with parts from Ali Express and elsewhere lol. In other videos I may be using a Scarlett 18i20, an ART Voice Channel and a Lewitt LCT 440 Pro.

Thanks

Hope you enjoy the music even though it's probably a little different from what you are used to listening. Also, I'm looking forward to sharing and learning from you guys and girls.

  • Brazilian music! 🤩 Luiz Gonzaga! Holy shit mate, welcome to our forum! Great video, great performance, great introduction! I for one am glad you're here.

(In case you wonder, I listened to a lot of Brazilian music 9 years ago when the Brazilian Olympics were aired. Great times. Great music.)

  • Impressive performance, a lot going on but you seem to have control. Very cool. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks a lot mate, glad to be here
Yeah, Brazilian music is awesome! I know I'm biased but it's really great.

I remember the Olympics. Playing live gigs was insane around that period
Tourists all over the place, my city was packed whenever there were matches.

    Good times :)

    Hey, thanks man!
Took me more than a few attempts to get that take down

    It's a pretty straightforward setup...
Beat and bass looping, then some singing and noodling around the guitar on top of that.
The tricky part is doing all the tap dancing and screen tapping and not lose timing.

It's a ton of fun jamming to self-recorded loops.
It's been challenging to think of cover songs that work in this format though, especially Brazilian music.

So, why not write your own then! ☺️

  • Great job! Catchy song. Love Brazilian music.

You know that's actually a good idea, I haven't tried that yet.
Going through writer's block lately though, hopefully that will dispel it.

Thank you man! Yeah, I think it's great too
Here's a video of Luiz Gonzaga on TV in 1953 with some folks dancing to the music.

  • Welcome to the forum @sennoide. I have super fond memories of the year and a half I spent in Brazil in my 20s. Even went to a few forró dances. I was really obsessed with Brazilian music at that time and bought a lot of old vinyl there, though I'm generally more into the jazzy side of Brazilian music than the folky stuff. Nice to see your setup, thanks for sharing and good luck!

That's awesome @Gavinski, Brazilians are usually super friendly towards visitors. I'm glad you had a good time while you were here. I really like the more jazzy Brazilian music too, the likes of Hermeto Pascoal, Eumir Deodato, Moacir Santos and so many others. The jazzy MPB stuff is great too :)
I went with forró this time because that's what I could come up with haha
