Most realistic Guitar and Bass sound fonts you have come across
With GR2 & Mr. Paul’s wonderful Fontstack on the market I was wondering if y’all had come across any truly realistic SF2’s
Comments
There's no such thing as a realistic guitar sound font ... to a guitar player.
Sorry, that's not helpful. The only ones I've messed with I can hardly stand though. I picked some up from SoundFonts4u that are ok if buried in a mix. I'd post the URL, but all that I can come up with seems broken at least for me.
The sound fonts that Paul used in the Strummer app aren't completely bad. If you own the app, you can download them using the built-in web server in the standalone app. If not, here's a list. Maybe searching the web for the file names might yield some results. If you do want to get some somewhat realistic guitars, MIDI Strummer is a good app to have.
Thanks Wim, I’ve been bopping around, even looking at older posts here, mostly everything is about the quantity not quality. And yes Mr. Paul did put some quality into that App.
Best at simulating slide guitar? Yonac Steel Guitar PRO.
I know of no good SoundFonts which can emulate the sound of a slide guitar without significant limitations.
I thought Decent Sampler was SF2 but it's SFZ. I bought a Fender Jazzmaster (on sale rn) for it long ago and then got so tired of the bad stability of DS, that I completely removed it. I have now started to use it again and that guitar is pretty interesting under the right condition i.e not by it self. 😃
Here's a link to some guitar SF2 - I have no idea about quality: https://www.polyphone.io/en/soundfonts/guitars
isFizz. As stable and lightweight as you could ever hope for with SFZ files. It can even do disk streaming for really large sound fonts.
(The developer recommends local, not cloud stored files, but I've not had any hiccups either way.)
Thanks, I've seen it but not invested in it, yet. DS seem to have been improved a lot but I've not used it that much, so can't be sure. GeoTony uses is a lot and seem very happy. I'll check on isFizz later.

Thanks for playing everyone!
Damn, I had a real good counterpoint but lost it (a bit like my economy), so, you wim this one.
Best realistic nylon guitar for ios in my opinion is the one with Pianoteq.
Best for steel strings is the American Acoustic in Sampletank - but i know most peoples thoughts on
IK.
I can't get this out of my head, do you really have a financial advisor!? I never known someone who have that kind of money so they need an advisor. Explains why you so often mock anybody questioning price.
We can of course joke about everything, no problem (honestly, it hurt a little bit because I'm in a bad place financially- but I get it).
💡 How about creating your own from your best samples? - https://www.polyphone-soundfonts.com
Sorry, I didn't mean any offense.
No, I don't have a financial advisor. That's kind of a standard disclaimer that always gets tacked on to any advertisements for investments here in the US. One of those things you just don't even hear because it's so often repeated by some speed talker in an ad or in fine print in junk emails. It just popped into my head, triggered by the word "investment".
Yes DS seems pretty stable for me @Pxlhg .
The developer fixed a problem last week that’s bugged me for ages I.e. the inability to rename samples and as a result samples showing in a random order. Both fixed now.
Every now and again large samples from Piano Book fail to load but I can’t remember the last one that did that.
I’m not sure about realistic guitar and bass sounds as I tend to go for the weird and wonderful (and free) but the two that come to mind are RJS Guitar (Old Strings preset) from the Piano Book web site and Short Scale Bass from DS.
Yup, Pianoteq
Just tried to start a new project in Logic, first track I loaded that bass and yes, sounds good. Next track all came to an end, DS wouldn't load and that in turn fucked the first track. Not sure why I decided to go with Logic. Well, that was that for now. Appreciate the tips. Thanks!
There are so many Bass sf2 files out there. I feel like I browsed though hundreds over recent months. Most are not a bass but of those that are there is limited quality. I get more satisfaction out of AudioLayer libraries.
That said, these are the ones I kept.
ABiasior FingerBassYR
ABiasior PickedBass YR
ABiasior SteelStringGuitar
AE DSF Basses 2
Bass Acoustic
Bass Guitars
Bass Ibanex Picked
Blue Acoustic Bass
And from the UltimateSoundfontPack.
Arco Basses
Bass 65 Harmony Rocket
Finger Bass
Fingered Bass One
I'm sure to reduce these again at some point.
There are a few mentions of various sources here, question was regarding FontStack: https://forum.loopypro.com/discussion/comment/1400880#Comment_1400880
I did try that free short..bass in Decent Sampler and it sounded pretty good. Till Logic decided, not today.
Can this be done in the iOS version? If not, has anyone done it on the desktop? I actually quite like the default steel string in that app.
Yes, it can be done in the iOS version, from the standalone app. Just tap the folder icon at the bottom of the screen, make note of the URL. Then point a browser on a different device to that URL.
The Studio Bass that comes in Logic sounds pretty good. You can use different articulations for each note — like hammer on, slide, mute, etc. plus it has different playing styles like pick, finger, slap, etc. once you get the hang of playing it, it can be very realistic.
Or you can get logic’s session player to play it for you and then you can tweak it to suit.
Yeah I know that but it was a sort of thing to test DS and if it had become more stable. I hadn't used it for long. Then Logic kinda screwed that test, I think. 🙃
Anyway, I do appreciate your suggestions, they're solid 😊 so, thanks bud! 👍🏻
