Why I like iPad more and more
Hi everyone!
Let me introduce myself, I'm Ludo aka SHLD, and I'm increasingly making Dawless music with my iPad! I decided to switch to the iPad when I got tired of buying synths and hardware grooveboxes that stop receiving updates after a few years... Leaving me with buggy hardware...
On my YouTube channel SHLD, I mainly have Dawless techno/house content, and I also use LoopyPro and AUM extensively in acoustic live performances with a variety of instruments that I play at wellness and meditation events.
I also have a blog that covers production tips for Dawless and Ableton.
Thanks to everyone on this forum for all the interesting things I've learned here!

That's really cool mate. Welcome to the forum.
Glad to have you. Just followed your Youtube channel and will check some of the videos soon.
Anyways, regarding the DAWless setup, which app(s) do you use? Have you dove into AUM and/or miRack yet?
When I play synths AUM because of the great MIDI routing, and Loopypro for acoustic sessions. miRack seems to be cool, I'll take a look at this
Yes! AUM's MIDI routing is very tough to top. Loopy Pro is great for acoustic sessions! I admit, I haven't used Loopy Pro much at all, because it doesn't necessarily fit my workflow and vice versa.
Excellent! It's like having a Eurorack system in your pocket if using on iPhone (which, I don't necessarily recommend compared to using on iPad, lol). Quite a lovely environment, that. I don't have my brain entirely wrapped around modular synthesis, but I do love using miRack for the most random shit like effects processing and the like. 😂
Yes - welcome! I also came to iPad after using desktop for many years, then switching to DAWless for a few short years. I like the iOS environment, because, like you, I can still somewhat be DAWless using AUM -- only minimally utilizing the screen gui. In my experience the often simpler and scaled-down apps can be easily set aside while I focus on creating a groove.
With desktop, I always find myself going down rabbit holes with the multitude of options and tweaks. That takes away from the creative process. iOS allows me to more easily choose how deep I want to go.
I love Loopy Pro for having a great mixer combined with a loop-based approach to creativity. It matches my mindset, which is seeing music as a collection of repetitive grooves (and the option of riding on top of the grooves for a live jam -- audience or no audience.)
