Best File Manager App?
Any good recommendations for a good file manager app that will help me "Spring Clean" my ipad?
Got that dreaded, ipad storage full.
Is there a file manager app that allows you to sort by SIZE, so I can find the largest files to delete first and free up space?
Display file extensions?
Most of the file and storage apps deal with photos which is worthless to me. I found one that looked good to download and it would not even allow access to the files local on the ipad.

The built-in files app allows sorting by size and displaying file extensions as well.
You can do things like search for
.zip
or.wav
, then sort by size. One thing to note: on iOS/iPadOS, duplicate files don't usually take up additional actual storage space. If you have ten copies of a file and you delete nine of them, the overall storage will be exactly the same until you delete the last copy.
The first place I go when running short on space is Settings > General > Storage, then sort by size. Sometimes there are apps I never or rarely ever use that can be "offloaded". Offloading removes the app but preserves your settings and files for that app. If you see an app that you think you could do without for a time, tap on it. The App Size and Documents & Data size will be listed separately. The App Size is the amount that can be freed by offloading the app. The Documents & Data size will not be freed. If it looks like a good candidate for offloading then use the Offload App button. The app will still show on the Home Screen but will be offloaded. Tapping on it will re-download the app.
Whatever you do though, don't enable the
Offload Unused Apps
option. You don't want Apple deciding what to offload and what not to.While you're on that screen, the "Review Large Attachments" section is handy.
Hi. You won't find a file manager app that can easily access "On My iPad", display filename extensions, etc. And no one can view the private data stored by an app. This is due to the rigid sandboxing of apps in iPadOS. The Files app can only access the "Documents" folders specifically provided by each app. Beyond that, all you have is iPad Storage, and an all or nothing approach, as already described.
For over 10 years, I've used FE File Explorer Pro for general data files, and Goodreader for documents. They let me build and manage directory trees, and know what I've stored, backed up, etc. All files downloaded are stored in those apps, even if I need to share them to other apps in order to use them.
I see it now, thanks
If you need space now and want to give yourself a bit of breathing room, just get iCloud Drive or Google Drive. If you have a Google Mail address you already get free drive space. I have both and like both, but iCloud is better integrated into the iOS/iPadOS/macOS environment, in my opinion. I pay something like $2.99/month for 200 GB online storage with iCloud and I only use it for "overflow" like GarageBand files. It's a bargain for keeping backups, in my opinion.

I strongly recommend this one. Has multi-tab browsing and supports the iXpand Drive pendrive, which is extremely handy for transferring things from iOS to, say, a PC or a printer.
+1
That does look like a good one. Put it on my app list for when I get the next iTunes gift card.
Ok cool, thank you, I'll check it out
