How to record non-commercial covers without copyright issues?

Hi folks!

I tried to record a Money For Nothing riff cover and publish it as YouTube Shorts and Instagram reel. But I used the original track as a backing track. And the YouTube Shorts was blocked even before publishing. And Instagram started muting my reels in some countries.

I googled how others avoid this, but usually people are asking in the context of commercial usage, e.g. for YouTube ads monetizing and such things. But I just want to have an additional motivation to practice playing for the record and don’t monetize them anyhow

So my context is:

  • No intention to use these channels commercially. I’m a hobbyist, don’t sell tickets/albums, don’t play on gigs, even YouTube ads monetizing is off
  • Depending on the length it will be either a full YouTube video or a combination of Shorts+Reels
  • I plan to do covers of 2 types:
  1. Guitar cover with the backing track. Something like this but not that awesome :). Just to learn a riff/solo and be able to play it clean enough for the record and share it with my friends and this forum
  2. Full cover when I play all the parts by myself and maybe change the arrangement, like what I already did here

How should I approach this? I just don’t want to be banned or have legal issues with copyright owners. In some youtube covers I saw that they have a specific mark with the reference to the original song, like here

But I don’t understand how to add it
