Question: What combinations of Apps and settings you use with Rozeta Sequencer Suite for Bass lines

Just got Rozeta Sequencer Suite and experimenting with it for generating bass lines to accompany song sections. Really like it's simplicity so far.

Wondering if you have any specific combinations of apps (within Rozeta or in combination with other apps) that you like for generating placeholder bass lines for song sections. Interested in everything from the note/chord generation all the way through to the bass sounds you like.

I like to generate bass line ideas on-the-fly while writing and will go back and write my own bass lines later.

Right now I'm experimenting with sending chords from either ChordBud or JustChords into either iBassist or several of the rozeta apps, but seems like some daisy chaining of apps (within rozeta or otherwise) might be powerful and also some small settings changes could make a big difference so thanks for any specific info you can share on what you like/don't like. I'm open to trying any other apps, as well, so feel free not to limit your discussion to the above.

Also, any tips/gotchas around having Rozeta Bassline follow the midi chords it is being sent...seems as easy as just making sure that "MIDI TRIG" button is visible in red at center/bottom of the display, but was searching for some sort of daw sync in settings and didn't find that.

Thanks

Bassline can't follow chords. You can transpose the sequence up or down by semitone with single notes, but it's not going to know what to do with chords.

Sending the root note of chords won't work either because the transpose is always relative around note C4. So you would need to know the interval you want to shift the pattern by, then send the right note offset from C4.

Then it would be a straight semitone shift of all the notes, not adjusted to the scale. So, you'd need to follow Bassline with Rozeta Scaler to force the notes back into scale. The result wouldn't always be like a typical bass line shift to fit chords.

tbh, this doesn't sound very promising for the type of thing you've been trying to accomplish with iBassist.

  • Thanks @wim, I tried a bit and just sending the chords to Roseta baseline seemed to work for some basic , repetitive bass output, nothing fancy…wondering if it was just luck, not sure …certainly not as advanced an output as iBassist but very simple and quick…again, maybe just got lucky, dunno

I think you must have just got lucky. I don't see how it could possibly work.

  • Yup, you're right. Still interested to hear thoughts on the combination of apps/config parts of my question, though, and how people are using Rozeta bassline and other rozeta apps (in combo with other apps) to do bassline stuff and/or other interesting accompaniment

  • I your other thread about iBassist it told you to get Scaler 2. I does what you are trying to do.

Can't help ya much there. I only ever use it for with Troublemaker or Pure Acid for bass lines. I would never use it for more traditional bass lines for accompaniment. I don't even use it for acid basslines much anymore since I discovered I like Neon sequencer far better for that sort of thing. (tbh, as much as I love Rozeta, Bassline never did much for me.)

  • Thanks @wim. @ecou, I have Scaler 2.
Would be great to hear some specifics on how it does what I am trying to do, if you'd like to share. Thanks

  • For those following along:
Appears the "PERFORM" menu in Scaler 2 has a variety of options to create various note patterns based on incoming MIDI chords. Looks promising for what I'm trying to accomplish, which is creating some simple bass lines as placeholders in song sections, during the songwriting process

Yes ! In the Perform drop down their is a Bass section and under that their is a ton of music style and each as dozens of patterns fitting the musical style.

I know it's not a very intuitive app to use. Here's a quick start.

Under the blue S , it should say piano. Click on that and pick a bass sound. (If your going to use your own sound load it as a midi auv3. If you use the included sound load islt as a audio auv3)

In the A section pick a scale or song.

B section - click on the scale name to see the chords. Click on the Play button to hear or click on the individual chord.

C section- when you have picked your chords, drag them into the C section. Then you can press play on the DAW play button and hear your tune.

Perform dropdown - go to Bass and pick a bass style.

If you want to chain different pattern together, I will refer you to Doug video.

  • Waymaker or Mirack would be better for modular-style sequencing where you chain apps. Bram did not expose all the Rozeta parameters he could have to external midi control. Many of the most interesting parameters are not exposed.
