Bose Soundlink Flex 2 pairs nicely with iPad, pun intended!
I was looking for a portable speaker option to monitor music making on iPad, realizing I would not get studio monitor quality, and settled on the Bose Soundlink Flex 2 Bluetooth speaker. Long story short: Very pleased.
What makes it great is the iOS app from Bose that includes a very basic EQ, which does a fairly decent job of giving you a flat sound for mixing. I connected it to my computer so I could run through some samples and compare it to my desktop monitor speakers, and was pleasantly surprised how close I could get the sound on the Bose. Yes, you don't get the full stereo sound, but in terms of highs and lows you definitely get a full range and an ability to sort through the entire spectrum.
The speaker itself is a nice build, not too big not too small, and solid battery life of 12 hours with 4 hour charge time. Volume can be controlled on the iPad, so you can just set it down where you want and focus on the iPad, either flat on its back (speaker pointing up) or on its side to face you. Good stuff!
One downside, yes there is noticeable lag when inputing notes live, which goes with the territory on Bluetooth. Still worth it though for getting good sound, which is what I was looking for.
