Looking for best AUV3 Drum machine with loads of preset patterns

I am looking for an AUV3 drum app that comes with loads of preset patterns in various styles, jazz, blues, rock, hip hop........

And an easy way to add variety to the patterns, randomness etc.
I'm not a drummer, but I need that "Session Drummer" to step into my virtual studio and get a beat started.

There are lots of good drum machines that are inside apps, Drummer in Logic, Zenbeats, Gadget, as well as some pretty good IAA drum machines like drum jam and session drummer, but I seem to be missing the beat on AUV3.

Or is there a source of midi drum loops that can be imported into an AUV3 app?
I would love to be able to import midi drum loops into Patterning 3, but not sure if that is even possible.

I’m digging DM10 and Hammerhead but, they do not have MiDi import… oh.. there is Playbeat 4 which recently introduced MiDi import.. seems there is an issue with the Auv3 midi import.. which is promised to be updated..

Edit.. seems there is ‘some’ midi import in PB4 Auv3.. and it shows the power of midi import.. sweetness..

Are you using a daw? If so, you could just import the midi into your daw and route that midi to patterning.

PB4 would look awesome, if I could actually see it. I can't find my magnifying glass or microscope

  • Lord has this been a sticking point for me on iOS. I feel like all the pieces are on the platform to make some good auto drum setups, but they’re scattered across various apps.

I really want Lumbeat drummers to fit into a workflow better, but their limitation of being stuck as IAA is a big bottleneck for workflow in my experience. Using them in AUM means launching each drummer I want to use in standalone, creating a channel for each drummer, loading them up, and then clunking between the apps to get them communicating properly. I wish iBassist worked as a sort of host for all of them as an AUv3 (kind of like Gadget). About a month ago it was teased reggae drummer will get AUv3 support but I’m not holding my breath for that any time soon. Even just one drummer being auv3 would go a long ways in working the Lumbar suite into that workflow.

I purchased some metal style MIDI drum loops recently I’d like to practice with, but haven’t found a great way to use them.

Helium has good MIDI import functionality. I like DM10 a lot as mentioned by @RajahP and Octachron is a good sequencer.

  • MIDI drum sequences + helium loops (or drambo, EGNodes - soon loopys midi loops) + Cem’s Autofill ?

There’s no one solution for what you’re asking for. Patterning doesn’t have midi import (recording yes)… in fact most iOS drum machines don’t import midi - cant think of a single one.

Record a library of lumbeats grooves and import them into Helium as a drum part library. You could go so far as to separate the kick snare and hat patterns so you can mix and match. I did that with session drums (old IAA app).

I don't know if it fits the bill, you could check out a few videos to see for yourself, but there might also be jAmp Percussive. It's more generative with it's Mutate/Overwrite feature, but I'm always satisfied with with the groove it creates. Feels very human. I find it's one of the fastest ways to get something fast from nothing.

I use Klevgrad OneShot with 4Pockets Helium and a some midi beats. Basically I build my own Superior drummer.

Helium is only used for the purpose of browsing the midi files and dropping them in Cubasis time line.

My drums are of the rock/metal genre so the following link may or not be good for you. But I am sure other style of midi beats are available elsewhere. Maybe GhostHack.

These are the midi beats I use. They were very cheap during the holidays. https://ugritone.com/products/almighty-midi-pack-midi-collection

  • Any of the Lumbeats apps are worth it, Digistixs, Hammer Head, Drum Computer, Splat to Clat Battalion when it finally gets here. You could do Koala & Get some @DMTcymatics packs, there’s wonderful stuff out there, just depends on your vibe.

  • If you don't have hammerhead get it. Ar909 has some decent presets... also helium works great with drum kit midi files. Helium comes chock full of great midi data too.

I personally am all about OCTACHRON and whatever I can get it to control. primarily Gladstone, Osaka, Fractal Bits lately

Koala started releasing their own sound packs too. They come with a buncha one shots and a few full kits, and a “toy”. I scooped the dub one, pretty good sounds, and came with a dub siren! Worth a look to see if it fits your style.

Oh yeah, I’ve got them, I wasn’t thinking, but you’re correct, Koala is deserted island for me.

Don’t seems to be that bad… for all it can do with imported MIDI.. MIDI import works flawlessly on my Air M1… not on my 1st Gen Pro..

This is really nice.. it’s the end of ‘beat’ making, as we know it.. infinity..
