Great speakers, but very pricey…
A very good alternative for a LOT less money is the Adam D3V.
@zzrwood I would agree that they are a bit pricey but they do sound amazing. It's really hard to show how good somethings sounds on a video. I am glad I got the opportunity to test these out.
Plus the ARC self calibration really does work well at adjusting the speaker to suit the room you are in.
I would go with the Adams.
nice monitors.
but i went for KRK GoAux 4 as portable monitors and loving them so far (my primary monitors are iLoud MTM mk1).
GoAux 4 got built-in ARC as well, also great connectivity (2 pairs of audio ins + USB audio that can be used simultaneously), bluetooth, and carrying bag included. the price is similar.
I went for the iloud MTM2s (had Yamaha's before) in part for incorporated ARC and associated software, in part over portability, but also over
"tight vertical dispersion, minimizing the acoustic impact of desktop placement and ceiling and floor reflections to ensure the most accurate possible sound..." (IKM/iloud)
as even if a speaker has correction standing waves and room nodes etc. can still bedevil and deceive you (unless you have a superior and well treated room) -the more powerful the speaker the more powerful those sort of highly complex deleterious effects. If we have perfect rooms that doesn't matter, but even if so if we are valuing portability and travel we don't always know what kind of room situation we might find ourselves in, in which case the more focused the dispersion the better.
