Apps that Snap

edited November 2014 in General App Discussion

A recent post about FW Pro and Gadget going well together had me thinking about other combinations of apps that seem to work exceptionally well together. Sure the Bias-Jam up and Wave Gennerator-Wave Mapper combinaions are a shoe in, but what about other apps that are not Co-Developed.

One of my personal favorites has been accoustic source into Samvada - Crystalline.

    Chordian and any synth
    Samplr and WOW

  • Samplr WOW, hadn't tried that, cool.

Heres a gem, Audio Elements into Impc Pro.

  • Has anyone managed to start stop sync Chordion with another app? Sorry if OT

  • @supadom, That would be a great feature!

  • Giant isopod > Samvada > Audioshare

    Figure > Samvada > Audioshare

Loopy (vocal loops) > voicejam (output slot) > voicejam (input slot) > Audioshare

  • Different Drummer into 76 Synth and using the xy pad on 76 to add melodies is a lot of fun...

    Audiobus preset '76 DD': http://preset.audiob.us/HhFLiF3TCusHzA2

  • Thanks @funjunkie27.

    I will try this.

I bought Different Drummer the other day and immediately regretted it a little bit because it looked so damn complicated to get a handle on. I'll try this sometime as a way in.

I found Gestrument (any scale) output to Thumbjam playing an African drumkit to be really interesting. You can get a steady 16th note beat divided up between different drums.

DD has one of the steepest learning curves I've come across, but that's to really learn it through and through. For beginners, I recommend downloading the community wavesets to learn from them. The manual is pretty good too, and there are a few videos out that might help. Also, the randomization features can get some interesting results.

If you have any specific questions, just let me know. I've spent a considerable amount of time with it.

  • Thanks @funjunkie27. That's really kind of you. And i'm sure others/lurkers would benefit too so I might just do that (when I get the time/energy to actually open it again :)).

  • I agree with what @funjunkie said about Different Drummer. The dev has some newer videos that are out.

Accept the fact that different drummer is about experimentation and discovery, as much as it is about the "knobs you can turn" yourself.

Ditto on the presets. I've downloaded some of FunJunkie's even, and they are great to learn on.

  • Thumbjam controlling something multi-timbral, such as Sampletank, with two or more instruments at the same time, i.e. piano + strings.

  • Chordion or soundprism pro into Thumbjam set up multitimbrally (and midi output in the control apps split to match).

Two things to note: 1) Thumbjam is a pretty capable audiobus sampler—go ahead and sample iSem in there and enjoy your cake with 1/8th the system overhead. 2) You can send each TJ instrument out of its own AB pipeline so each can have discreet effects.

  • Dm1 -> VoiceSynth

Perhaps this has been mentioned before or (more likely) I am making a foolish hash of something obvious, but VoiceJam appears as an input but stubbornly refuses to appear as an AB output.

    Curse of 8.1? (Air 1)

    Any thoughts/ideas?

    Pulse Code Modular + iDensity

Audiobus - Sector into AUFX:Dub - swapping between multiple state saves is fun as long as the state saves have the same apps in the same slots there wont be much interruption as Sector changes pitch, tempo, warpshapes and sample while the delays of the previous loaded sample bleed into the new one playing, and of course some drastic Dub changes for some tape effects, works with Echo Pad too I believe.

  • @JohnnyGoodyear - maybe ios8. Cos it shows up as both for me on ios7 Air1

  • Thanks Matt. I think you must be right. Patience at this end I guess...

  • @JohnnyGoodyear, put VoiceJam in the input of one audiobus lane, then you can open it up in the output of another lane. Works for me , Air 1. iOS 8.1.

  • Oh rats. There goes one of my secrets. I was hoping no one would discover Samvada.

  • Ha ha. @redskylullaby switched me onto it.

    It's great.

  • Grazie @Fitz with give it a run...

  • +1 for gestrument and soundprism pro into thumbjam (or sampletank, bs-16i, isymphonic orchestra, Thor, mitosynth, etc). I would add that TC-Data is beginning to supersede gestrument and soundprism as a compositional controller for me. Very organic controller when using the note filter (scale, harmony) and drag touch controllers (short, medium, long drags for note on) for generation of quite complex note (and CC controller data) streams to your favorite sound maker.
Note sampletank's latest update no longer is working with TC-data but they are aware of it (really expressive stuff with miroslav sample set - when it works ;).

Ohh interesting! Didn't know that was the purpose of state saving. I've been finding a good synergy between Sector and Effectrix.
