I got an e-mail saying Fruity Edition is on sale for just £40, anyone have a view on whether it’s worth it?

Thank you for doing the boring job. So, Fruity is the light version many daws offer for free when you buy a sample pack or an app whatnot. Then 40 Great British Pounds sound expensive. Downvote.

  • Some unsolicited words:
I can recommend the full version, if you like the workflow and interface. FLS has a fully functional trial, so it’s easy to test. Pricewise, all the included instruments - as well as continued free updates - make it a responsible purchase. IF you can gel with it.
FLS is much less structured than most other DAWs though, so projects can easily get messy if you’re not paying attention. Also, if you’re mostly into automatic modulation, then Bitwig is way better.
I really like it though for manually building stuff and picked it up on a sale once. It has gotten a bunch of updates since, and comes stock with most everything I need. Buying extra stuff is mostly for GAS and variety, not actual necessity.

  • If this sale does not affect the price for the upgrade, I would think it’s worth it.
Though I find it to be not optimal on my mac (intel). On Windows it works like a charm, again, for me.

  • It doesn't affect the price of the upgrade. Upgrade cost is always calculated based on the full version prices.

I think it's a good starting point to get to know the FL workflow and if one gels with it, then use the probable black friday/year-end sales to upgrade to a more complete version.

  • Highly recommended to just download it and use it in Demo mode to see if you like it. You won't be able to save anything, but will have access to everything else. Reference the version feature comparisons as you go to see if the included features are worth it to you.

FL Studio is literally the best music investment I ever made and I love it. It's not for everyone though. If you're used to straight up traditional DAWs, or if you're engrained in the Ableton Live workflow, it may not gel with you.
