inconsistency re 6/8 vs 6/4 in various hosts (with a focus on Loopy Pro)
I was playing around in Logic with a song in 6/8. It all sounded about right and I thought I'd try out some work in Loopy Pro. At the same tempo in 6/8, loopy's metronome ticked at half the speed.
I went back to Logic and set the tempo to 6/4, where the ticks were then the same as Loopy's at 6/8.
So it seems the 2 apps interpret what that tempo means differently.
I compared AUM, which doesn't have 6/8, only 6/4 (in fact all it's time sigs have 4 as the denominator.) At 6/4 it was in line with Logic at 6/4.
So it seems Loopy may be defining 6/8 incorrectly??? Or is there inconsistency out in theory land about this?
You'd think it doesn't matter, just adjust the tempo to suit, but it all goes wrong when you add a drum machine, especially one like jAmp percussive or the Lumbeat ones that provides drum patterns for you, and they are either 2x too fast or slow or just sound wrong. I was trying Percussive, and after doubling the host tempo it left me with only half a bar of steps to play with...
Anyone else have these kind o0f issues?
Comments
Loopy’s meters are all really x/4
Isn't that kinda a problem?
Think of it as working the same way as AUM and that it is a labeling error - of sorts.
This should be interesting ... 🍿
Don't break out the popcorn on my account lol.
The only question that matters is: is Xequence's implementation correct™️? 🤡🍿
I’ve mentioned & requested /8 & /16 for Aum in various threads , seemingly ignored .
Makes many of my projects unusable with it as I like to play with non- 4/4 beats ,
as it also affects the bar numbers count for syncing with other apps .
(edit - my hopes rose with addition of clock divider /multiplier few months ago ,
but still couldn’t get it to compensate sync correctly )
I had been planning on finally getting Loopy Pro when midi version drops ,
very disappointed to learn if it has similar failing .
good work!
Oh, IS IT? I'm Not A Music Lawyer 😄
