  • Can't imagine it being anything else. Looking (not too far) forward to it.

  • My curiosity is peaked. I always do love to add a bit of flavour to my synth leads. Seems that could be up my alley to be fair.

If you want a amp sim Aurora DSP as Goblyn for free. It sounds very good.

But my favorite is Dead Kitty. Cost only a couple bucks.

Not bad. I'll have to check those out. Thanks for the heads up. :)

    No Rhino love?

Messing around with the lights and levels reveals a bit more.

I remember Stark didn’t exactly overwhelm people here.

  • Yes I'm very curious about this update! Will they manage to improve the overall quality and feel of this plug?

My initial feeling when playing around with it for the first time was a bit mixed too. The interface is nice and some amps sound good but that stereo widener makes everything sound a bit weird to me. I also missed some more overdrive pedals.
    Let's see :)

I have used Rhino in the past but their newer batch like the Ironheart sound much better.

Listen to the guitar sound I got sound I got on this tune. I am very happy and got many compliments from guitar players. https://ashadedarker.bandcamp.com/track/tokyo-cyber-racing-league-k2w1

  • Ok I just updated Stark to the new 1.2.0 version on desktop and tested it.

    These are the new features:

    • Added noise reduction functionality
    • New pedal: Reverb
    • New pedal: Envelope Filter
    • New pedal: Spinner
    • Amp bypass
    • Cabinet bypass
    • Various optimisations

Overall it feels good. There are very nice new presets that showcase its new functions and give you authentic sounds from different eras. That envelope filter pedal is a lot of fun and the spinner sounds great.
I still would describe Stark as a special amp modeler with lot's of character. Not the usual one. More on the lo-fi/gritty side.

My 2 wishes for future updates:
    1. a realistic spring reverb with that boing/splash effect
    2. tube screamer/blues driver/rat like overdrive pedals

Nice! That does have a killer tone.

“Ironheart”? Oh… the Laney amp, yes I did see that. I might have to wait on it to go on sale.

Have you tried the GigFast NAM stuff from Artera DSP (I think I’ve been getting them confused with “Aurora DSP”)

Can’t resist jumping in… Having owned pretty much every amp SIM out there, GigFast Lite is the only one still on my iPad. Highly recommended.

Having to agree with you. GigFast is the new GOAT. But I still keep using ToneDeluxeV2 on my iPhone 13 as I don't want to stress it too much :)

  • Any thoughts on tonestack pro?

Lots and lots of FX and amp models. Amp models not as good as other alternatives such as NamXT, Gigfast Lite, the Nembrini apps, and TH-U. Nice if you want an all-in one solution, but by most accounts not as expressive and good sounding as other options. I do really like the delays and reverbs though.

    ymmv

Thankya, yes an OVERWHELMING amount of fx haha. NAM sounds like the best way to go. And sorry for veering away from stark…

I’ve never used it on desktop, but watched a couple vids. Seems like a gnarly little ampsim, especially if you’re going for the Lofi sound that’s all the rage these days. Could also see getting some dire straits/knopfler type tones outta it. Will keep my eyes peeled tomorrow!

  • I could not get great tone out of Nembrini amp. They are not bad but not great.

Some of the Nembrini amps are among the best, imo. They take some care to set up to sound their best. Flo loves them. They benefit from third-party IR’s.

Opposite. I keep trying to beat out my favorites and it never works.

You can add 3rd party IR's to the nembrini amps? or are you disabling them and subbing in ones using an external IR app?

Disable and sub in with a separate plugin. Nembrini has an IR Loader with some useful enhancements. I like that one but any IR loader will do.

Maybe I'm getting less picky in my old age, but with some of their amps, such as the Faceman, I've actually ended up finding included IRs that I like the matchup better than my usual go-to IRs.

Flo spends lots of time findings the right IR to match the amp.

@wim @audiblevideo Have any of you tried Dead Kitty ? It's a JCM 800. What I love about it is it's simple as hell but just sounds good.. I put Nembrini Screamer in front. But not the TS808, it doest sound as good.

    Or Ironheart?

I have to play more with Giga lite. It did not strike me on first try.

JCM style amps don't do it for me in any flavor. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Your probably not into metal or rock ?

  • That’s an important aspect we have not talked about. The style of music. That influence you amp sim choice a lot.

(Classic) rock yes. Metal not so much - for playing anyway.

There has to be a band, or song, something you like, that uses a JCM.

  • On another note. Are the effects pre or post the amp section?
