Taking a short forum break/The Importance of Unplugging/Android?!

edited May 29 in Other

So I've been a bit more active here recently, and it has been taking a little toll. So, I'll be taking a short break from publicly posting here. Life has become a bit more stressful, so I'll be unplugging for about a week. (I'd say until about 7 June earliest.)

I love this forum and the good folks here, but sometimes we all need a social media cleanse. (I am far more active here than on Facebook, which I barely ever open these days.) And it's good practice to unplug once in a while instead of being online 24/7. Helps clean up stress and alleviates mental well-being.

So, if you're feeling hella drained, it may be prudent to unplug and go out and touch grass. :)

That said, next week I'll be investing in a new phone - a Samsung S25 Ultra! What's crazy is I planned for my next phone to be an iPhone 16e with 512gb, but honestly for a couple hundred quid more I can land a nice Samsung while it's on sale.

"But Jim", you may ask, "Why Android?" A few reasons. One is, it's just easier for me to use in so many ways. Plus, keeping things limited to FLSM and Cubasis 3 on Android prevents "options paralysis" and helps me get down to business quicker for sketching out ideas and shit. I often find myself mentally stuck with all the plugins and such available to me on iPad. It may sound rather odd, but it's how my crazy brain is wired. 😅

Also, another selling point for me is the S25 Ultra comes with an S-Pen (i.e. pressure sensitivity), which is perfect for making art on the go. I do love using my 14 Pro Max for that, but pressure sensitivity ups the game quite a bit. Then I can work on art commissions on the side as well while out and about. (Now if the 16 Pro Max had its own Apple Pencil styled stylus, I'd invest in that instead, lol.)

I used to use Android phones exclusively pre-2017, but then switched to iPhone. It's rather crazy to think I'll be switching back to Android again, but I'm pretty chuffed about this switch.

Anyways, that's my time, friends. See you in roughly a week or so. Cheers. 🍻

    Have a great, relaxing week.

  • I realized I could use my AT&T phone account to get a new phone for free (in the sense that I agree to remaining a customer for another year or too). So, I opted to add a Google Pixel 9 Pro to my bag of tools so I can just take to Google Gemini as a drive and stop looking at a phone screen for searches and such.

It makes Siri look like the game is soon to be over if Apple doesn’t make it more useful. Siri keeps serving me web pages or totally misunderstanding the context of my questions. It’s worthless in the car and probably causes accidents for anyone hoping to go hands free while driving.

As I’m getting up in age I also upgraded my car to get more computer intelligence for braking, collision avoidance and staying in my lane. The cars in my blind spot having become an increasing source of potential accidents and this new car won’t let me change lands if anything is back there in that dreaded blind spot.

Computers and potential uses of AI might save a lot of lives over an army of 70+ year old drivers making mental errors.

The cars FYI is a Kia Sportage Prestige with all the latest Kia “intelligence” features. It’s much cheaper than the other HEV options out there and seems to be pretty well designed and assembled. It should keep me on the road for another 10 years, I hope without any “head ons” like the one I had in 2012. The mental video from that day plays back at will in super slo-mo which your brain uses to record severe trauma.

Thanks, my friend. It was super relaxing. ❤️

@McD I was in a toral loss car accident back 13 March 2025. I gave up driving and walk most places. I use the local special needs transit system to get to and from work. (Having Autism, ADHD and anxiety has its benefits. ) Let the psycho drivers on the road be somebody else's headache. I hated driving the 8 years I did it. I'd rather be a passenger.

Also, I'm saving a ton of money per month by not driving, which is how I was able to afford the new S25 Ultra phone.

    @knewspeak Hmm, interesting OS.

I'm back by the way. Was a relaxing week off from here. I'll make this my main place to socialise online. Tired of social media in general. I stayed away from Facebook. I only keep Facebook Messenger for my family, friends and business contacts over Messenger, and Discord to still keep in touch with my gamer friends. That's literally it.

Facebook itself is like any other social media platform I've tried - a flippin cesspool of bollocks, from unsolicited political and religious opinions, to people bitching about every little thing wrong in their lives, to idiots looking to be offended, etc. I actually toyed with the idea of quitting Facebook, but there'd go all my business contacts. 🤦‍♂️ A necessary evil I'm afraid to say.

Discord is more chill to be honest. A bit more like here. An occasional disagreement amongst friends, but nothing really all that volatile. I'm happy to be a part of this forum.

    Time to catch up.
