Mc 707 question

My birthday coming soon and I'm planning to buy myself a second hand mc707 that barely used by owner for 700 usd. I know it's a stand alone groovebox itself, but i would like to use it with my iOS music apps time to time, or even maybe midi controller sometimes. This is going to be my first physical groovebox. That's why I'd like to know if Anyone here owns mc707? How it works with ipad? Is it worth buying?

I have one, probably too clever for me, but have been back at it of late. Certainly not going to sell it. More than anything I would suggest you go listen at the feet of Unit: E. A very mellow Hawaiian teacher who has many tutorials, starting with:

There's a LOT of help out there if you find you need it. There is no question the 707 is (very) capable of making serious stuff (whether I am also so is another matter entirely :) Good luck to you!

  • I had an MC-101 which worked very well with iPad - it has class compliant midi and audio, so one cable and no interface or dongle needed. MC-707 will work the same way.
Only sold it because sound editing, while possible, needed a lot of menu diving... Totally different deal on the big brother...

  • I have one but I barely use it, when I do it’s standalone so far

I use mine all the time, it’s really powerful if you take the time to learn the synth engine. Not sure how you envision using the iPad with it, so hard to know if it will work for you or not in that regard. I have plenty of live sets of my 707 work on my YouTube channel if you want to check out some examples.

I’m going to throw in a wildcard here: Roland Zenbeats on iPad + Novation Launch Control XL mk3 and what do you get? The tactile functionality of the 707, editing possibilities of a DAW instead of a small cramped window, access to both Roland sounds and all the AUv3 synths there is on iOS… in theory it should work but I haven’t tried it.
