AI-powered MIDI controller
So this is interesting. A MIDI controller that uses AI to auto map knobs, sliders, and buttons to plugins.
I wish we see more AI things like this vs click a button and get a song AIs.
Comments
I highly doubt any kind of AI (i.e., artificial neural networks) is involved here. It's probably only a huge database of mappings. "AI" is likely only used as a marketing buzzword to lure customers in who're confused about what AI really is.
And believe me, while the ACTUAL AI example you mentioned ("Click a button to make a song") may not be useful to you, THAT'S the ACTUALLY mind boggling feat here 😄
You’re right. If they have to work with different companies to make their stuff work…then?
AI is really advanced statistical modeling anyways. There’s really no intelligence. 🙂
Yes those button hitting, song creating AIs are amazing. I like more buttons though. 😉
Looks good.
Well, what is AI really? Even an automatic gearbox could be labelled AI because it does its job better than an inexperienced L'earner in a car with manual transmission 😉
I'm also missing transport and other buttons, faders and an XY pad - but as always, no MIDI controller has ever been able to do everything, and if it did, it sure was the size of a

I feel AI means machine capable of making its own decisions based on its ability to make sense of information.
…at the same time I don’t see how scientists and engineers will be able to create machines that have hunches, yet…
Although our environment tends to trigger hunches based on a few timely mental connections. At least that’s how my non-spiritual mind sees it. My spiritual mind feels guidance from God.

@rs2000
🤣
Is that the APC 4000?
Hunches are a kind of subconscious and embodied pattern recognition. Animals have them too, not just humans. It definitely doesn't make much sense to think of AI having hunches, but there's also no need to posit a soul to make sense of the concept of hunches.
But yeah, back to the controller. I would really like DAWs have built in AI for these kinds of purposes. I hate having to do things in AUM like switching a bunch of different channel outputs to particular mix busses in AUM for example, or indeed having to manually set up parameter automation. I'd love to have an AI assistant right inside the app that I could direct with voice commands.
Someone said it could be the APC737 prototype, who knows... 😋
Once BrainLinkXT™️ is ready for the masses, that might work.
My experience with MIDI mapping is that everyone wants something different, and the best thing that we can have now is MIDI mapping that is as quick and straightforward as possible.
I've done hundreds of project mappings in Drambo and I don't think that AI-supported "speech to mapping" would always help, sometimes you have to re-think the mapping while sitting in front of the controller in order to make a fluent workflow happen, especially with more complex controllers like Arturia Spark, APC40, Atom SQ, some Faderfoxes etc.
100%. Sometimes there’s a lot of tedious stuff in production. An AI agent can help with that.
I feel you, although typically music comes from a place not necessarily as obvious as zeroes and ones per se. Very small interplay of experiences, knowledge, understanding, and skill. I know science is trying to develop tech to have intuition (hunches). I was just listening to the DOAC podcast where he and his guest were discussing how AI is being developed to be creative. We are already seeing basic AI-like tools creating musical phrases that play off what you’ve already created a la virtual band member. I personally enjoy synths that can create random presets, random patterns, noise as an LFO source etc. Having AI think and feel is an interesting concept 🧐 I mean scales have a certain feeling, it’s not hard for AI to feel from that standpoint then contribute to the feeling. Perhaps soul is legacy, like Windows 95 to a modern computer. There are elements of Windows 95 still present and help determine how computers respond.
And they will use the term AI to excessively jack the price to ridiculous levels! Probably with a 1000% markup on cost of production!
