DrumPerfect Audiopaste workaround

edited November 2014 in General App Discussion

Hi to everyone. My first post and hopefully a useful one.
Since buying DrumPerfect I haven't been able to import my own samples into it using simple copy and paste to create my own kits. Apparently it's a bug that will be fixed in the next update. Till then, all you need to do is switch off 'sample name edit on paste' in the settings menu. Now you're able to 'paste audio'. Hope this makes sense!
Only down side is your imported samples can't be named. So they will all be called 'General Pasteboard'. Never said it was a fix-just a workaround.

Forgot to mention, after importing each sample and placing it in your new kit, you must then delete the file from the DrumPerfect pasteboard to allow you to import the next one. Must be because you can't have two files with the same name. You can delete by swiping left over the file name 'General Pasteboard' and a red box will appear.
All a bit messy I know. But it works. It'll do the job till they fix it in the next update.

  • UPDATE..... Frustratingly, I have now found that after a DrumPerfect crash that all the samples and kits that I imported have been lost. Did it again and the same thing happened. Real shame as the kits I created were from DrumLoops HD and sounded awesome. But that's the way the mop flops!!!
I'll be waiting for the bug fix in the next update unless anyone knows of another way to do it!!!

  • I'll be far more interested in the app once it has midi out. I don't like any of the included drum kits so the app is pretty worthless to me right now.

  • @AndyE: did you actually save and name (save or save as) the kits you created? In case the previous state cannot be loaded for whatever reason, DP will restart empty, but the saved files can be reloaded in the Kit Editor and will still be in the /kits folder (also accessible via iTunes file sharing).

  • @Coloobar: v1.05 will feature midi file export.

  • Hi Marinus. Yes I saved and named the kits. But after it crashed all the kits I'd saved reverted to the last sample I'd imported, which was a ride cymbal. Therefor, instead of kick, I got ride cymbal. Instead of snare, I got ride cymbal. Same for every drum sound on all four kits I'd created. They were in this state also in the kits folder.

  • @AndyE: Can you indicate the sequence of actions that will reproduce the issue? Or send me the kit file from the /kit-folder (.dpk file) that has the issue? You can use marinus_at_drumperfect_dot_nl for this.

  • The sequence of events are described in my first 2 messages. I'm using copy and paste to load samples from DrumLoops HD. I'm turning off 'sample name edit on paste' in the settings menu as a workaround, otherwise it won't work at all. I have to delete each sample from DrumPerfect pasteboard after placing it in a kit otherwise it won't allow me to import the next sample. I think this is probably the root of the problem. The samples I import are obviously never being saved in DrumPerfects list of samples(the big long list) as I'm having to delete each one to allow the next to be pasted(because you can't have 2 files with exactly the same name) because of the way the workaround works. So after a crash, usually after I've loaded 3 or 4 kits and saved and named them, all the samples have gone from all kits I've created and have been replaced by the last imported sample (whatever instrument that might be). So although I can still load the kits I've created and named from the kit list, they will now only contain 1 instrument (the last imported sample). This is the only way I can describe it. Maybe you could try it yourself if you have DrumLoops HD. Don't worry if you can't or don't have the time. It's no big deal in the grand scheme of life. I'll just wait for the next update and hopefully the bug will be fixed.

Do you have the AudioCopy app installed? It will allow you to have multiple files on the pasteboard.

So after a crash, usually after I've loaded 3 or 4 kits and saved and named them

What iPad do you have? Did you check the memory usage in the kit editor? iOS will shutdown apps that use too much memory, which could easily be the case if you load 4 multi sampled kits, especially on the older devices.

  • Thanks Marinus. I'm using iPad Air. I will take a look at the Audiocopy app as you suggested. Thanks for taking the time to help me out. Very decent of you.

Please keep an eye on the memory monitor ;-)
Perhaps start by loading one of your kits at the time.

If you suspect another cause for a crash, please let me know!

By the way, if you want to import a lot of samples, it might be more convenient to copy them to the iTunes file sharing directory. They will be automatically installed on the first restart.

  • Hi Marinus. Happy to report that importing via Audiocopy app is a winner. It allows me to keep all my imported samples in the long sample list in DrumPerfect as I can now name them when pasting. It conveniently keeps all my new samples at the top of the list so I don't need to scroll through to locate them. And no crashes!!! Only one problem but nothing to do with DrumPerfect. DrumLoops HD, where I'm getting my samples from, is not compatible with Audiocopy app. It has very limited export facilities. So I first have to copy/paste to DM-1 drum machine app, then to Audiocopy app, then to DrumPerfect. But it works, no crashes and all my samples are stored and can be used in any kit!!! Created 2 kits already.
Thanks for your help Marinus. You're a top bloke.

  • Glad it works for you now!
