EIE OR ioDock

Which is best...have used ioDock but not EIE....I need to get external gear in stereo in...I have an iPad 2

  • One thing to consider is, you're stuck with landscape orientation with iodock. Also the controls are on the back and side, kinda awkward. In all fairness I sent the IoDock back when it first came out. It had major issues. Some have been corrected. I'm loving the EiE. Haven't had any issues so far. Love the amount of inputs and outputs. You may also want to look at the Behringer Iostudio which is alleged to be out soon. The controls on the IoStudio are on top. It's almost an exact replica of the IoDock other than controls placement.. My choice is definitely the EiE mainly for stability.

  • Agreed with @mgmg4871. I've had the EIE for a few weeks now and have no complaints, however all analog inputs are mono I believe.

  • OK thanks..so I'm right in thinking that I could plug one of my synths in to inputs one and two and it will record on two tracks i say Cubasis or Harmonic Dog

    Oops, disregard

  • I just opened up my new EIE 30 minutes ago! So far so good! I plugged in my guitar and gave Jamup a shot, all is well. Next was a vocal test in MT Daw and it too is looking good. I've been using an iRig the last two years and the bleeding just got too unbearable now that I'm taking iOS a little more seriously. The thing looks awesome too, love the vu meters!

  • @CSwinnLove the looks too!

@thesoundtestroom - I haven't tried that. I have had three analog inputs, plus a single USB midi controller input at the same time, into AB and then into Cubasis, and it worked great!

  • @soundtestroom. You're correct. As long as the app allows recording simultaneous tracks, and Cubasis does.

  • This sounds like the best solution and the most stable, have not heard anything negative about this unit...I have a few keys and things like an Electribe EMX, Roland GW8, Akai Miniak, Wavedrum Mini (mono), Korg Microstation, Kaossilator2 , Kaosspad2, Roland VP7. And these synths and things has lovely stereo that needs to get into the iPad..previously I just ran mono feeds from these into iRig but it ain't the same..thanks for the help and advice..anything else I should know would be cool beans..

  • It has an effects loop for each analog input, but I understand that requires a Y cable - stereo at the EIE split to two mono. I think that's how it handles effects send and return on a single jack.

  • Those are inserts- meaning before the signal hits the AD converter, you can patch in a compressor etc. not to be confused with fx loops where you are able to send signal from the iPad.

  • Hello, guys. One question - what do you mean by EiE? Akai EIE audio interface??

  • Yeah, the Akai EIE..

  • Thanks for the clarification @Dubhausdisco

  • For the super geeky, you could get the y cables, and use the inserts to bypass the preamps...

  • So I've had the EIE two days and everything's been going great. Now today, when I plug it in, the sound on my ipad disappears. The volume buttons on the side of the ipad do nothing and the speaker icon doesn't even show up, and when I double click the home button and swipe to the right, I can see that that volume bar slides all the way down. As soon as I unplug the EIE the volume slides back. Any ideas? This is driving me crazy!

  • If I understand you correctly, the volume slider on the ipad is supposed to be inoperable when you use an external audio interface. Everything operates from EIE.

  • Thanks @mgmg487, its working again. I've been using the audio jack from the ipad with nothing in the output of the EIE. I did the same today and had the volume disappearance, I'm not even sure what resolved it but its working again. I had rebooted everything a few times and finally my last try worked.
