Is there a host with audio/MIDI routing on par with AUM?
I rely heavily on the routing system in AUM (which we all know is fantastic) but I really miss automation. Yes, I know it can be done with various plugins but it’s always a bit of a kludge.
So, a hypothetical scenario of how I might work in AUM:
Particles routed to a synth
The same Particles routed to another synth via MIDIGates
The same Particles routed to ChaosARP and then to a third synth
The output from ChaosARP is also routed to another MIDIGates instance and then routed to the FIRST synth
All synth have some effects applied and before those they also may be routed via a bus to another channel with some other effects applied there.
All channels are routed to a master channel with mastering effects.
And so on…
Is there any DAW och host that can do this as easily as AUM?
Comments
I am wondering what AUM automations Midimixer from 4pockets offers. I own helium and the midi toolkit includes AUM midi mixer and midi strummer. Currently looking for videos on midimixer to see if it can do anything like that. Will report back
Watched Gav's video, doesn't look like that's possible via midimixer
All that routing can be done quite easily in Drambo, where you also have first class automation support.
If you forget about all the modular building blocks available and just use Drambo as a host for AU plugins, it is not any more complicated than AUM. Sometimes you need to plan ahead a little since the signal flow should be from left to right and top to bottom, but there are also feedback paths if needed. For your suggested example I would just put the midi generators on track 1, then have synths on other tracks and connect their midi input to the desired parts on track 1.
Aren’t you limited to 16 tracks with Drambo, and there’s no project chaining like in AUM?”
I do have Drambo but I'm lost to figure out how it works, I'm not a fan of watching instruction videos and the latest version of the manual doesn't seem very up to date...
Sounds interesting but I don't have a clue how to do the second part of that, i.e. the midi routing...
Start each synth track with a MIDI to CV, as usual. But connect its MIDI input (lil 5-pin icon) to the output of one of the MIDI generators. In Drambo, you can "wire" anything, MIDI, audio, CV, as long as signals flow left-right, and down. Much simpler than other apps, especially DAWs.
Ok, I think I've figured out the MIDI routing now...can I route audio between tracks?
In regards to tracks I just tried to see and I got to 20 and if we count sends and master it’s 23. I’m sure I could add more but just wanted to point out there isn’t a 16 track limit
Cool. I will try Drambo again
Yes, but mainly only top-down. Tap the audio input node for whatever you want to receive the audio, then while it's flashing, navigate to the track and audio output that you want to connect and tap on it.
Thank you...
