Audio Layer
Hey, I have bought the App recently and I have a few questions:
How do you organize your Samples Libraries. I have an external HD with a folder called AUDIOLAYER and an other folder called EXS24.
So when I create an Instrument from a EXS Library I make a new Instrument in AL and do a batch import and then save it into the AL folder.
So when I save the Instrument are these samples also saved within the folder (so basically I could delete the EXS24 folder?)
It takes a really long time to convert these libraries (sure they are nearly 1gb, but I have an iPad Pro M1 and thought it should be faster... an import from one library took me about an half hour. Is this normal?
Last question: My plan is to sample Kontakt Libs into the Logic Autosampler and then import it into AL. How is it going?
What confused me is the vide from audiodabbler:
where he clicked on an exs file to import them (not batch import as I did).
Other tips and tricks?
Thanks!

AudioLayer will pull all the samples into private storage copies using any method of instrument creation, I believe. I tried
many experiments to see if I could get samples out of AudioLayer. After merging AudioLayer with Xinematics for shared instruments I think extra security was added to avoid users getting at the raw samples of Xinematics, which are owned by KARO.
Keep the originals or start using an SD Card or USB disk to save them for the future needs. The version inside AudioLayer
can be exported in an “instrument” package that is NOT a zip file or folder but a custom packaging you can’t see or edit.
I’ve never seen it go really fast. So, fast you can read the scrolling text as individual samples get loaded and assign to AudioLayer metadata.
Kontakt has it’s own formats and one of the older ones has samples in a folder you can use to load up AudioLayer instruments
by hand. Lots of tweaking that might NOT be required with EXS24 so good luck with Kontakt stuff. Personally, I’m finding more joy using Decent Sampler (a free IOS app but with version for Mac, Windows, etc). Decent Sampler has yet another packaging
file that can be read/created/edited with an XML editor. PianoBook.co.uk has over 100 free Decent Sampler formatted instruments created by musicians. a lot of value for $0.00. But another learning curve to master to make/edit XML files.
I like to edit an existing Decent Sampler file with effects and a solid UI and just edit the samples section. Decent Sampler as a project is well documented at DecentSampler.com and in YouTube videos.
AidoLayer could have changed the import process since the video was created. Better to use the search feature here and find someone that explains how to get that EXS file installed.
Batch import was probably added well after that video. Just a guess but AudioLayer has been updated many times to add extra features.
I like checking to insure samples have a naming scheme that describes the data and imports setting more details.
Learning a workflow that you like takes some trial and error experimentation.
Hey McD, thanks so much for your detailed answer! Yeah I know Decent Sampler, have installed it on all Platforms. Also know the "Convert with moss" App but had mixed results with it. Mainly I think cause of the copyright protection from Kontakt libraries.
Switched to AL cause of the EXS24 plattform and Autosampler.
Autosampler works great on my MPC, too. But loading time is a nightmare, also the RAM limitations....
But I will see how it goes.

The Audiolayer Autosampler is so good. In AUM you just need 2 copies: 1 in the effects slot to capture the input and
send MIDI notes to the target app and the 2nd instance in a synth/app slot to hear the results.
