Screaming Mummies

This was sort of inspired by “Curse Of The Pharaoh” by @MadeofWax. The music is entirely different but the concept is similar. Mummies reanimated and causing trouble. This is what most might call “metal” - a genre that seems to be somewhat popular on SoundCloud. Play counts aren’t everything, but it’s nice when people listen, and I like doing it. I love both Motörhead and the Carpenters. To look at me you would never guess that I do heavy metal music. I am your typical, nondescript, old white guy in Docker shorts sitting on his patio, waving to the neighbors as they walk their dogs. That’s what I’m doing right now. If only they knew.

There ain’t no fool like an old fool.

I don't agree with what you state in your text (about metal and, age) but the music is awesome. I really like instrumental metal which is way to rare.

I'll link you to a friend of mine who released an absolute masterpiece album of instrumental*. Listen if you find time and feel like it. Lars Boquist - Larser Than Life
    Warum is my favourite.

*2 of the songs have lyrics.

Edit: btw Lars is my age, born 1962 so... 😂

I really liked Into The Void and The Reckoning. I wish I could have listened to more, but they wanted me to “sign up” and I don’t do that. I have never been on TikTok, Instagram or any other of the other usual suspects. I started a Facebook page, but they wanted my real name and a selfie. I’ve never taken a selfie. My wife still thinks I’m hot… but she’s my wife. I still think she’s hot, too. But mostly, we just like being together and going out for lunch. We just got back from The Bavarian Lodge a few hours ago. She had Cabbage Rolls and I had the never ending bowl of Beef Stroganoff. It was great. Plenty left over for lunch tomorrow.

Tell Lars that I dig his music and will look for more on the interweb. Born in 1962? You’re just a young puppy. You’re only as old as you feel. In my mind I feel like I’m 25, but my joints think otherwise. Have you ever heard Soilwork? My oldest boy really liked them. We were going to do a CD of original metal music. That didn’t work out. Life goes on. Have a beautiful day!

Agreed. I don't like sign ups either but at least it (Spotify) is free to listen on the web, might be commercials but I use plugin for those (uBlock origin). Never heard of Soilwork (great name) but listening to -- Spirit of No Return -- just now. Reminds me of inFlames. May you and your wife have the best of it all, cheers!

@Pxlhg One night in early January 2004, me and the boys were watching a local cable station when this came on. JD turned to me and said, that’s what I want to do! He was 15 and had green hair. His band was called Tragedy On Tuesday. I’m crying right now.

  • Hey Paul,
Appreciate the shout out. Really enjoyed the track. I like the frenetic pace along with the chunky riffs.
Your music is always an inspiration.
Hope all is well with you.

Hi Mac. I really liked the visuals of Curse Of The Pharoah. I recently read an article about "The Screaming Mummies of Guanajuato". I didn't make that up! I remembered your project and just decided to go with that name. It's not getting much play, but my next one will be a hit... fer sure. I'm taking an old Joan Baez protest song and doing spoken word poetry over some really huge, needlessly complex ambient music. I love this iPad stuff. Imagine trying to get a band to go along with that!

We're doing just fine. We went back to Bavarian Lodge again. I bought one of their T-shirts. It fits great and is quite comfy. We should probably be saving more, but we could get hit by a truck tomorrow, and it would all go to someone who just arrived here last week. The heat here is brutal. Fortunately, my patio is situated in a spot that seems to get a constant breeze. Not much, but just enough.

Keep me up to date with your current projects. Wishing you and yours all the best.

Soilwork and Inflames are both Swedes and part of the Gottenberg scene..

Here's some instrumental metal for you.

Have you ever heard of Argent metal ? It's a style of metal based on the soundtrack of the game Doom from 2017. It's mostly all instrumental. Super low down tuned 8 strings guitar.

Great track Paulie, I am glad to see you are still letting your wild side out from time to time.

    Age is just a number.

    Up the irons! 🤘🤘

  • @ecou Thanks for posting these. Is that you? The first track reminds me of Tony Iovino, my former partner in crime. The playing technique is very similar. Circle picking and fanning the strings, while the left hand does most of the work. I especially liked the Argent metal track. I doubt if it has anything to do with the band Argent - Hold Your Head Up. It’s the kind of music I would love to do. However, I limit myself to my iPad and headphones, so it’s probably out of my range, but it motivates me to try harder. I think this is something that Stravinski might have done if he had the technology. Hope you are having a great weekend!

I wish it was me. 😎 It is Jeff Loomis from Nevermore. One of the greats.

The term argent comes from the dark energy that exist in the game.

This is Nevermore. They split after their signer died. RIP Warrel Dane. But they are trying to restart the band with a new signer.

Hey @Paulieworld , the part that comes in around 1:08 was a treat. It reminded me of The Chemical Brothers album, Exit Planet Dust. I forget which track, but something off that album. (They’re not metal)

And i really like the outro!

That’s a name I haven’t heard for a while. I just looked them up. Looks like they are still together. So many great bands, so little time. Have a great weekend!

You know, Paul, the real Buddha is the Buddha that doesn’t seem like he’s the Buddha.
    Perfect track.

I'm beginning to look like the Buddha. I have been going crazy with chocolate ice cream recently. Karen said I'm turning into a Chubby Hubby.
    Peace bro.

  • Loved the ending… and quite enjoyed the stuff before the ending 😊
High energy but with some nice subtle changes of mood and tempo to keep it all fresh, nice one 👌
