Inspirational Videos about Musicianship and Artistry

I saw this video today that discussed Prince's amazing work ethic.

And it was the right kick in the arse I needed to get my head back into the music creation game. (I was slacking off the past 2-3 months despite making a 6-track EP.)

How about you lot? :) Have you any video(s) to share that can be shared here to inspire me and others?

Oooo dope I'll check this out over breaks! Thanks for sharing!

Unfortunately, my production is purely hobbiest* and takes back seats to work and family/life. Therefore, motivation is thru the roof since I obsessively think about it every waking moment

However, I would like to point out my motivational videos -- other Loopy Pro users showing off their setups

With the 2.0 drop and the glut of new videos, holy balls have I been invigorated in new ways

For sharing: INKIE's recent hour long 2.0 showcase kicked my arse in great ways

The simultaneous integration of Touch and Select has been something I've been working towards for a while... INKIE has the concept I needed!

Aaaaand showing off using the rotary encoder in colab with the play head adjustments.... Oooo nelly, got polyrhythms bursting outta my belly!

(Make a hat track. Double it. Tap the plahead adjustment to taste. Mmm mmm good like Campbell's!!)

*Got plans to change that... But patience and commitment is key (I'm learning)

hehe, yah I find motivation is never the problem. For me there is a minimum commitment of time and headspace I need to carve out that just isn't possible sometimes. I know what you mean in obsessively thinking about it and try to use it as the motivator to clear space (being somewhat securely employed helps). I just can't listen to the Rubin's and Eno's of the world with their independently wealthy solutions to living a creative life, haha. All I need is to listen or look at something I love and I get motivated. As far as being a hobbiest I find that works great for my music. If I needed to make a living from it I doubt I would love what I would have to do to float the boat in the industry.

LOL! Took me about a month and a half to make it start to finish starting in late May. 😂 Not really that conducive to building a legacy vault thingamabob. Before that, I made like three tracks from April to late May. Before that, I was a music making machine!

However, now I'm working on client work. Sometimes when I am given a direction to go in by the client, then I get to work!

You kicked my butt! I was unemployed since Jan 1 and haven't made anything until this past week. I am now binging before the new job starts. Lovin it!

Sometimes that's how the creativity works, lol. There's a dry spell, and then suddenly all this creative shit comes at you at once. x'D

That said, congratulations on the new job, man! I'm happy to hear that great news. :)

I had to spend every waking hour focused on getting work. Definitely wasn't a lack of creative, more just panic, fear of bankruptcy, eviction etc.. The games industry has massively crashed the past couple years since the pandemic ended.

That said, congratulations on the new job, man! I'm happy to hear that great news. :)

Thanks Homie! Quite relieved now. :)

No kidding RE games industry. And the current disaster that is the Switch 2, from lackluster launch titles, to Brickgate. Flippin heck.

Basically, what happened during the pandemic was that when a whole ton of industries were essentially shut down investors turned to games in droves because games could still be made remotely and people really needed something to do so playing them actually boomed. The problem is you can't grow a studio and return investment at the rate that investors were expecting based on the greedy BS growth curves they were fed by companies courting investment. So once things opened up after the pandemic, previously desperate investors pulled out in a big way feeling burnt and big key investment firms focused on games had massive layoffs, which sent a ripple effect through the entire thing, layoffs, studio closures etc. There are a few other factors, but that is the big one.

  • Not sure if this is "Inspirational" but I definitely found it very interesting in terms of the idea of Artistry -

Now I don't always watch this sort of thing, nor am I the biggest fan of the YT channel, but I found this recent video essay by Adam Neely to be really interesting

Theoretically it's a "reaction" to the unmasking of some "Guitar Influencer" as a fraud/theif but I liked its analysis/perspective regarding musical "authenticity", core morality concepts, and how things change by genre and how the execution varies...
Bit long, but perhaps worth the watch...

I found this interview with Lau Noah to be inspiring because it shows how composing on a guitar can lead
to chord changes that defy conventional patterns, Then she sings a melody that harmonizes with the connecting runs between chords. The results are pretty unique for a singer/songwriter performer and can open doors to new chord choices that get attention for being unique. It is a very theory intensive approach that only a few might appreciate or maybe understand. Still… listen. Does it touch you as a listener or miss your target?
