Any AUV3 samplers that can record straight to pads on the transients?

Is there anything out there similar to loopys transient pads... Just with editing controls?

I'm already looking at sEGments for it's lazy chopping (tap pad to add chop, similar to sp404), but I can't find an example of it used set to transient from the jump and recording into it

My hope is to record in quick vocal sounds, auto fill pads preset with CCs, then use sequencers to mess with 'quickly' rhythmizing into beats

I only know Koala, which doesn't do either of those with any real fluidity, so I'm curious about other options

As always, all thoughts and ideas welcomed and thank you for any provided insight!

  • What about bm3 can’t you chop a thing and have it drop to its own pad?

Well, what I'm looking for is something akin to Loopys transient pad chopping, but in a plugin form, with access to attack/decay etc

Record in, and bam, it's chopped to pads on transients

For the Lazy Chopping I referenced, the sp404 (and sEGments) allows for lazy chopping by tapping the pads where you want the segments to be set while the sample plays. So you tap a pad, it sets the chop point there until you hit the next pad. Koala, you can chop a number of ways, but it's all on a separate popup and doesn't allow for a flow to be established while live building

And the only reason I brought that up is because sEGments includes that specific feature, so it's on my radar as a potential purchase already, in case it offers the Auto Transient concept I'm envisioning

And, forgive my ignorance, but isn't BM3 its own standalone host? Or does it work as an auv3 as well?

I'm honestly not overly familiar with BM3

  • sEGments might be your best bet for something AUv3. You record the part - hit the detect button and the slices are on your pads - it’s actually really smooth and you can adjust the slices as necessary. I haven’t done this, but I would think you would be able to set up the kind of thing you are talking about inside Loopy.

Ok, so with sEGments, I'd still have to hit Detect. As long as it's an exposed perimeter, yes, could definitely be a usable option thank you!

Do you have the plugin to test if there's any auto detect/populate option?

It certainly wouldn't be the FIRST thing Michael has revolutionized for iOS/production, but it wouldn't surprise me to hear there is nothing else with the ease of Loopys transient pads

I'm just hoping for something with a little more flexibility (editing sensitivity on detection, etc)

I don’t know if there is an automated way of doing it in the app. I just loaded it up and I can’t find any setting that does that. It definitely gives you the ability to play with the threshold and to move the transient markers easily. You can also do things like reverse individual pads and other fun stuff. There is an IAP for better time stretch and more slices (32), but I don’t have that so I can’t tell you all of the details included in that. Might be worth checking the manual out as well: https://www.elliottgarage.com/manuals/helpSegments.pdf

    @Mountain_Hamlet thanks for the input!

I caved and grabbed it 😅

It's almost great... with a few hiccups. HOWEVER completely usable for what I'm trying to do!

    Minor gripes:

    • Cannot record into the plugin if it's set to Poly. It flat crashes. So I have to have it loaded in Mono (default), and gotta learn to remember to change it to Poly

(Will actually be reporting as a bug if it keeps happening over the next few days. Gotta troubleshoot my end first to make sure)

    • No auto-detect on transients so I have to hit the button in the plugin (not exposed as an assignable perimeter, either). Since I am already in there to change to Poly, just another quick step to do. Can also (quickly! ::squee!::) clean up false chops

    • While looking at exposed perimeters, I discovered there's no single attack option, there are 16 separate attacks, 16 release, 16 pans... Etc. I was hoping for one Attack that lets you adjust the last tapped pad (like it is in the app itself)

Will be experimenting to make sure I'm not making ignorant claims, but this is how it looks from jumping in and reading/watching/doing so far

All that said, this is a MUCH quicker implementation than Koala for what I'm trying to do... And that's something, cause I fking LOVE Koala 🤣🤣

And as a light teaser for my use case - I've successfully integrated a beatbox auto fill into my vocal template 🎉🎉

  • Cool. Positive progress. It’s all about getting that flow happening. I had a similar moment with sample crate recently. I didn’t know how much of a difference it would make to the speed of creation having that in slide over mode. Tuck it away when I don’t need it, but it’s always there when I need to search for some audio goodness and then just drop it into the track.

As I dip in and out of learning and practice of different parts of production- a constant cycle of hyper-focusing on

    10 Vocal Only
    20 Instrumentation
    30 Sampling
    40 GOTO 10

-I grabbed Sample Crate as soon as it was it's disappearance from the app store was corrected

I'm out of the full-on Sampling deep dive I was in (Vocal Only mode, currently), and did NOT consider using Sample Crate like that!

Absolutely brilliant and will be adopting that as soon as the Slice N Dice cravings/addiction return!

(Also, can't wait to try out sEGments for that too. The lazy pad chopping is something I have yet to experience. Only working on learning incorporation for This Use so far. And I've been koala-ing for over 3 years without need to find an alternative.... Til now)
