SP404mk2 Loopy integration

Hey all,

I’ve been working on an idea and wanted to see if anyone's tried something similar or has advice.

Basically, I’m planning to load my SP-404 with loops and trigger them using a 16-step button grid in Loopy. The idea is to seamlessly trigger and record loops into Loopy, with Loopy sending the MIDI notes to the SP.

Right now, Loopy can trigger the notes, but I have to manually change the MIDI channel to access other "pages" of loops on the SP. Is there a way to change the MIDI channel of a widget item using a stepped dial or something similar?

Also, if anyone else is using an SP with Loopy, hit me up—I’d love to brainstorm and swap ideas!

  • I found a workaround using another app called mfxstrip, and that changes the bank of the outgoing signal!!!

I've been using Loopy Pro with a 404MK2 for a couple of years. I took a year developing a layout in Loopy Pro, up to the point Roland added an internal looper with the v4 update.

I primarily use the MK2 in DJ Mode, which is a bit of a misnomer in my opinion. It should be called 'live performance mode' or just 'god mode' as it's super flexible and combines a lot different features all in sync. I use Loopy Pro to add extra features not currently in the 404 like the auto-slicing of live loops and the ability to have separate control/routing of multiple looper tracks.

Another major part of my setup is a Launch Control MK2 mapped to both SP and Loopy: knobs for all 5 FX busses, dedicated buttons for my favorite FX, faders for the DJ decks and pattern sequencer, plus controls for Loopy Pro. All on one control surface.

Not quite understanding what you gain from the setup you're describing, if Loopy Pro is handling both the audio looping and the sequencing, I guess you're also using the internal SP samples and SP effects?

In the SP's DJ mode, you can load internal audio into a deck, set/trigger cuepoints, make autoloops, etc all live (while it's playing) with the deck being the master tempo, so if you switch to 'pad mode' any other loops will be tempo synced, along with the FX like delay, the other dj deck, the pattern sequencer, and even loopy pro. You can also use the pattern sequencer as a stem launcher. It has it's own fader and transport. Mind you all this stuff takes a lot button combos, which is why a mapped controller is a must.
