Using buttons to control Koala pads solved

edited August 2025 in Loopy Pro

Does anyone know the best way to connect Loopy Pro buttons to Koalas pads? I would like to hit pads without having to pull Koala up. I appreciate the advice

You can trigger koala pads by sending midi from loopy buttons to koala.

Koala has a bug , which I understand is fixed in its next update, that prevents midi from working in some hosts until the AU’s window opens once.

  • Also, you need to be aware of this interesting problem in Koala's default mapping of MIDI to pads.

  • Thank you but I’m actually looking for the set up… like from the buttons setup menu like press, midi source, target Koala … I’ve tried a couple of combinations but I can’t get it to work. I’m way new to ALL of what’s available in LP

Create a button. Tap on it to edit it. In the Press/release area tap on + add the Send MIDI Message action. Choose Koala as the target and choose the note to send. Note that Koala numbers octaves differently than Loopy Pro.

  • I coulda sworn but I’ll try it again. Appreciate you

Make sure you have opened koala’s window at least once and that you are sending the correct notes. Post screenshots of all aspects of the setup if that doesn’t work

  • This didn’t what Am I not seeing

  • @espiegel123 i appreciate your help and patience on this

    See: https://wiki.loopypro.com/Samplers

Is koala loaded as an instrument or effect? If it is loaded as an effect it may be idling (covered in the page I linked to).

Can you take a screenshot on the iPad so that we see the whole screen — which will show the on/off/idle state

  • Now both buttons (although assigned differently) are hitting the first pad in Koala.

Can you zip your project and share it so that I can look at it?

Do you have Dropbox or google drive? If not, zip it and send to [email protected]

  • @Drrabbitfoot:

In koala, you have keyboard targeting turned on. So, incoming midi re-pitches the selected sample. Note the keyboard icon:

Go to koala’s sequence tab and turn that mode off by tapping on the keyboard icon

  • Thank you VERY much!
