  • Well done!

  • Sorry I'm late to the party. This is a cool track - where are all the comments?!?
Love the fusiony-vibe - reminds me of some good tunes from way back, Dave Grusin or something. The unison Fender Rhodes(?) and guitar is so sweet and nice solos!
Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to what's next.

Thanks @pbelgium - this one kinda flew under the radar. I was looking to do something a bit more composed and vibey, and this was the result. I'm really happy with it. Glad you liked it - I will be releasing the whole album shortly, just want to give this a bit more time out in the world first 😁

Don't forget to check out the B-side at the Bandcamp link above - can't seem to embed a player here...

  • Fusiontastic… liked the repeated descending note patterns and the guitar riff + great guitar solo from 5:33 👌
Views / listens seem to be in short supply these days which is a shame for something of this quality ☹️

  • Mega dittos to all of the above! Everything is right and super tight, but at the same time, maintains a loose and laidback feel. Not easy to do. Catchy little melodies that stay in my head long after it’s over. I’m hearing it now as I type this. Pat Metheny was always great at that. Jeff Lorber is another that comes to mind. I actually saw the two of them in concert together many years ago. Very well done. Enjoyed it a lot.

Can you tell me a little bit about your setup? Do you use any outside musicians? Do you write detailed, individual parts for each of the players? I’m not asking you to divulge any trade secrets, but I dig this style and would love to give it a try. Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks, @GeoTony - guitar solos are my Achilles heel, and so my challenge on this album was to do them all myself. This one turned out pretty well - glad you liked it.

    🤷

@Paulieworld - I'm no Pat Metheny for sure, but I can definitely hear some Jeff Lorber in there. I've been listening to him more lately so it likely seeped in via osmosis or something.

No outside musicians - it's all me. Other than the electric piano and guitar solos, everything is composed. The chordal elements were first and then I worked out the melodies for the "verse" and bridge parts. I struggled with a melody for the first part with all the modulations, so I settled on the descending "Riders on the Storm" electric piano part to fill the space. Once I have the basic outline and structure of the tune, I go back and perform each of the instruments (except the drums which are programmed) in as much of a single take as I can.

Recorded in Cubasis using Wurly, Ravenscroft, DigiStix2, live bass and guitar - standard production apps include Lunar Lander, Medusa, MixBox (not at my iPad at the moment to list them all)
