Koala - new lazy chopping
The new lazy chopping addition to koala works so well. Was playing around with it last night with LaunchPad X, chopping samples by pressing the pads. The way it's been implemented is very user friendly. If you haven't checked it out yet, go update and play.

Was there an update?
Sounds like a cool feature. Is there one long recording in the background with multiple start points on the different pads? If so, can you access that long recording, so you could drag the "sample start" of one pad a bit to the left (before you told koala to start using a new pad)?
Yepp, should have dropped earlier today
No, no updates.
What should I do? Re-install?
I don’t get it. How does it work?
You start recording with "hold" (i.e. drag upwards on an empty pad), when you want to start recording on another empty pad you just tap it. In order to stop recording altogether you tap the pad you're currently recording into.
Cool, thanks @Grandbear
So am I correct in saying that the only difference between this and regular recording is that you don't need to hold your finger on the pad?
Sometimes when you look at the AppStore you don't see that an update is available. But then when you actually go into the AppStore page for the app, it will now suddenly say 'Update' instead of 'Open'. If you still don't see any update, I guess you'll have to wait. Reinstalling won't make a difference tho
Another Koala question I've been meaning to ask for ages: I love how easy it is to delete a sample when I want to, but is it possible to somehow reduce the sensitivity of the trash icon? I'm guessing this isn't possible. I just find it pretty annoying...if I don't just press straight down on a pad, even the slightest movement with my finger, left/right/up/down makes the trash icon appear.
+1 to this.
It sounds silly but, this behavior & how the lightest of contact on an empty pad records tiny clips of silence makes me not wanna use koala at all.
I’m constantly taken out of the moment with worry that I’ve just deleted a sample I’m working with, or I spend a lot of time cleaning up all these scraps of silences that I don’t want to work with, such that I lose focus and bail out of using it all together.
Kinda agree here, but if you 'perform' on the page where the transport controls are things feel a lot smoother and you can't accidentally delete anything and can still add new samples from the browser.
If you want to lazy chop using a MIDI controller (I use LPX), this is what I did after some experimentation:
You can place the original sample on any pad.
Go to Settings:
General > Hold to record (turn off)
MIDI > MIDI can select pad (turn on)
MIDI > MIDI can record pads (turn on)
I make my long sample one-shot. Press it, then I start pressing the pads to chop.
With the above setting, the pad continues to record until you stop it - so this means when you press pad 2 it automatically stops recording pad 1 etc... The only pad you need to double tap is the last pad.
You need to set up your controller to activate the pads - via midi mapping or midi note offset.
It’s an update
What I meant to say was, if you hit one of the pads a bit too late, can you adjust the start point to the left (if koala actually started a new recording, there would be no going back before the sample start, I guess). Anybody?
Don't think so. However, you still have the original sample, so you can go back and resample or copy it the change in/outs
@dmori Thanks, that's a pity, that would be a workflow I like.
