Alesis Vi25 and iPad discussion

I have an Alesis Vi25 that I got used a while ago. It’s not my favorite controller in the world but I like the semi weighted keys, after touch, and compact size. I have to tape the power chord in place to have it work, the pads are kinda squishy, the buttons are very clicky, the velocity wheel doesn’t reset fully to 0, and I wish it had some faders.

That said, I really only use the keys and the pads most of the time since it needs a decent amount of setup in my experience. I’m thinking of having it be primarily a Camelot Pro controller for instruments with more limited key ranges.

Any tips on setting up a controller like this? Are there easy apps to help easily create MIDI mappings? What DAWs might be most compatible?
