New 'complete' version Band in a Box for iPad OS

edited September 2025 in General App Discussion

This just dropped a few days ago, not sure if it's discussed already on this forum. Anyways, it's pretty cool for desktop BIAB users, especially if you have lots of MGU files, which import well. I've been waiting for this for well over a decade. It was crashing for a few days, but they fixed it. We already have very good apps like iReal Pro, But this has a notation window which many of us have been using for quite a while. I have so many files i've collected of the years.......Btw, a good way to import is to use a zip, if you have more than a few files, and if you want to import a style. It unzips inside the app, so you just share the zip to the app. iReal Pro is even easier to import.

  • Looks like BiaB is free now, with no IAPs. iReal Pro is $20 and has IAPs. But, of course as the old addage goes "You get what you pay for". 😅 I'm not sure if BiaB costed anything before this recent update though.

  • Thanks….

  • Thanks for letting us know !

  • Are these apps in IOS?

  • Still only a "mirror" for PC generated stuff.

Just to be clear, they have had a BIAB app for years for iOS, but it was just a front-end to the desktop version, like Logic remote, so don't be put off from checking this out. The desktop apps (Mac/windows) have remained basically the same for 15 years (I was using BIAB 2012 yesterday). They have added stuff to the desktop versions, and it's very active, with updates every year, but there it is (I use the older versions for some things). This new port to iOS is great.

No, you have a different version of the app then. I'm using an iPad and haven't tried the iOS version, so it may be just iPad OS. The phone is a bit small anyway, but certainly would be great for it.

  • I had a hype up b4 and biab didn't work, but that was lie a year ago.... I hope so it was the ace for jazz and more learning chord changes. The general midi tones were cheesy but hilarious. I hope you can use other synths and that there is good playback!

It's strange that this app has been around 6 months now, and there's no mention of the app on the devs website.

There are thousands of already existing BiaB song files available in the SGU Backing Tracks Facebook group.
