@FizzyLizzy27 I'm a diehard Cubasis 3 user, even if currently just to record vocals and master tracks. I have all Cubasis 3 IAPs and Iconica Sketch as well, and looking forward to what @LFS comes up with next. Remember You wanted to know how to produce a Splatoon-styled Dedf1sh DnB track back in March? That was great fun coming up with something like that to help you and myself, and I used Cubasis 3 for that.
But for your use case, I think Logic Pro may be the DAW most closely resembling what you need out of an iOS DAW. I've used Logic Pro before, and while it is a pain in the arse for me to use personally, it has many great features other DAWs don't have. Mastering Assistant is one thing, and it works a treat. It has Quantec Room Simulator which is an absolute cream of the crop reverb. It has stem splitting in case you want to remix something. As far as I can recall, Logic Pro has track freezing, which is definitely important for hand-editing audio for those stutter effects when producing something in the Dedf1sh style.
I've come to the conclusion that, if Nanostudio 2 had audio tracks as was promised by Matt before he went the opposite direction and sunset the bloody thing, it would've been the "perfect" iOS DAW (at least for me personally). However, even if so, there really isn't such a thing as a "perfect iOS DAW", at all. There are only "what works best for you personally" DAWs on iOS.
Anyways, your best bet if you're truly looking for a powerful all-in-one solution, might be to switch to Desktop. Ableton Live and Bitwig seem to be the cream of the crop when it comes to desktop solutions, though I've no personal experience with either of those apps. @mistercharlie could probably tell you more about Live.
Then again, for me personally, desktop DAWs feel like "homework" whereas I'm far, far more creative on iPad, was on iPhone, and even more creative on my Android phone with what limited amounts of music creation apps are there. (Although I love my Android phone! Gonna try G-Stomper Studio (or whatever the full-featured app is named) soon! I miss Caustic 3 though, lol.)
As far as where I am currently, I'm using FL Studio Mobile and Auxy Studio as my main creative tools, with Cubasis 3 being where the unmastered tracks end up being (these days I utilise BarkFilter's Triple Band preset in the mastering chain). Neither Auxy nor FLSM can host AUv3 plugs, but for quickly creating music on the go, they serve me rather well! Got a new 90s House track in the works as we speak.
Interesting how everybody (except of @jwmmakerofmusic
) here is overlooking FL Studio Mobile :-) Like yeah, i know it lacks AUv3 support, but other than that pretty solid app.
And then there is nTrack Studio .. probably too high price .. But it's very complete DAW solution.
And Roland ZenBeats.
Shit pommes frittes, now —>I am looking for a job. We can do this, I have seen a picture of coding..
@SevenSystems
No but seriously, it is a compliment your app would have taken the cake if it had Auv3, audio, and updated GUI (—>Xequence 3, just for it being new).
As is, it remains the only app I really can work with on the phone.
FL studio’s lack of AUv3 makes it a no go for me. I’m sure it’s plenty capable but I can’t see me getting it.
I was curious about how many of my requirements nTrack Studio checks off. Does it have AUv3 multi out and decent MIDI routing? Those are the two biggest features I’m wanting for.
I would avoid nTrack Studio as it has way too many showstopping bugs for me to make use of it. I actually got a refund for it due to how awful it was for me personally.
I could never wrap my head around Zenbeats, but it seems extremely capable.
FL Studio Mobile is wonderful for me personally, and it keeps improving all the time. I really love it to pieces and, despite lack of AUv3, really does tick all my other boxes. If I need a certain sound from AUV3, I'll just simply sample a oneshot in AUM to import into DW Sampler. Easy peasy. ❤️
I combine daws. I use logic for writing/ recording and Auria for mixing. Auria isn’t what you’re looking for. It isn’t great with midi, it’s buggy & drives me mental at times.
However, when it comes to audio and mixing it just works for me like no other. Simple things like pitching and reversing the same piece of audio without having to bounce down like with logic & really easy duplicate feature just make it so much quicker for me.
When I transfer my parts to auria I just find it so much easier to mix on and sounds instantly better.
But I’m used to it. I’ll never not use it.
@jwmmakerofmusic you’re who got me using Cubasis with the dedf1sh project (I need to pick that project back up now that I’m more familiar with concepts involved). The IAPs and Iconica are some of my favorite sounds on iOS. I view it and Logic Pro to be pretty neck and neck as the better DAWs for me.
I really need to double down on learning one of those two, accepting not every required feature box will be ticked, and using AUM for handling anything I need past that. Logic Pro is what I’d say I primarily want to use since it’s my desktop DAW and has mostly the workflow I want.
I agree that a switch to desktop would be ideal - I don’t find myself getting frustrated nearly as often when I’m able to sit down at my desk with my trackball mouse, analog keyboard, Launchkey 3, two screens and table space for a notebook or iPad. I’ve been less able to do that lately since my wife and I just had our first baby two weeks ago.
I saw mentions of Zenbeats and Beatmaker - are they really DAWs or more beat tools?
Sometimes I wonder if a Groovebox isn’t the better workflow for me. I have Groove Rider 2 on my Home Screen right next to Logic, AUM, Cubasis and Loopy. But every time I open it I just can’t get anything started I end up looking. I don’t think I’m very good at loops.
I've had it on desktop for well over a decade, but despite hardly ever using it, I've recently had my head turned by Logic.
I was asked to play a gig last week, and so spent the previous two learning the ropes of the Looper section in iOS Logic, so I could chop up and perform a few tracks without taking my more expensive laptop and usual Ableton Live setup.
Can't say it was a breeze - pretty steep learning curve digging into the deeper features, but now I've got the hang of it on the iPad, I've started composing tracks using the same method on the laptop version.
Much as I love Live, the lack of AU MIDI support has always bugged me, so being able to use my MIDI sequencers (loving Polybud at the moment) in Logic has been a big plus.
So for an iOS DAW my go-to would be Logic Pro. Saying that, I've only re-subbed for a month as I'd rather use the desktop version, but for future gigs and live jamming, it'll definitely make a return.
Definitely. Cubasis 3 also has track freezing, and it's pretty straight forward. Just a push of a button.
I was so happy to make that Dedf1sh project for you. It was a fun challenge for me too.
Then I'd say you ought to stick with Logic Pro on iPad.
Holy crap, congratulations!
That's amazing, mate.
Zenbeats is more of a beat tool but can be used as a DAW as well. Beatmaker 3 is more of a DAW than Zenbeats in my opinion. It's a bit "dead in the water" as far as new features are concerned, but it has more than plenty of great features. It also has the best sampler on iOS as far as I'm concerned.
Loops are the basis of pretty much everything I create on iOS, lol. Of course that's not everyone's workflow.
Yeah, I think Logic Pro would serve you best in my own opinion.

I don’t have a Mac (yet), so how does the workflow from Logic for IPad translate to the Mac version?
Is IPad (Pro) + iPadOS 26 + external display similar to the Mac version?
Audio Evolution Mobile Studio has become my go-to. All the other DAW’s just don’t do it for me. IMHO it’s the closest to “NS2 with audio tracks” that I’ve seen. FWIW
I'll definitely have to dive into AEMS soon. Will be fun to learn another DAW.
P-Lock in Drambo is it's own thing that's different than other DAWS, an Elektron style parameter lock that holds your set value until the next trigger or note. It also has automation (parameter motion recording)
Thank ya kindly for the correction. Gotta keep my Drambo straight 🤙
.
For the longest couldn’t enjoy Roland ZenBeats DAW on my old 5th Gen iPad but it really runs amazingly solid on the M1 Pro 5th Gen. I’m amazed how good the built in Synths are! Really grateful Pop Drummer runs solid in it too! So far zero crashes or freezeups after hours of use on IOS 26 latest.

lol
Oops, too late, lol. Think I may want to give that a go sometime in 2026. I recently purchased a ReMarkable Paper Pro Move tablet that's my "daily driver" for journaling, notating music, and sketching as well.
(If I want to do fully coloured art, I'd import the sketch and work with it further in ProCreate). So, I'm gonna wait a little while.
Meanwhile, I can use Beatmaker 3 to scratch the itch. 🤣
Are DAWs on iOS really that bad ? In Mars of this year I was part of a contest where you produce a song a week for 8 weeks. Which I won btw. People I was competing against had room full of gears.
I used Cubasis to produce and Auria to mix. I have also used Zenbeats that is also very good.
Most of the tools are available, maybe 2% is missing. If something is missing I look for a work around. If I can’t find one I do without.
People have created classics with way less tools then we have available.
Here’s the music i created.

Ha! Nice!
Well, I produced two tracks yesterday, but am stuck what I want to produce today. Not creative block but "options paralysis".
Cubasis is, for me personally, the king of the iOS DAWs. Logic Pro is second, but only because it's iPad-only. Cubasis is on iPad and iPhone. Auria Pro, now there's a blast from the past I haven't heard mentioned in a while. (I still find it fiddly to work with, and since Cubasis 3 can host AUv3s, I can use my FabFilter plugins in there.)
Exactly.
Facts, such as the Beatles and the Beach Boys (Brian Wilson was a f-cking genius!)
Will give it a listen soon.
@jwmmakerofmusic
oh man I had forgotten all about g-stomper. I had the very early version of it back when I was on Android. I loved that app, it was like a miniature electribe with orange buttons. There were sound packs for it. That's how I heard the sound of a Nord synth for the first time and why, when I saved up for my first synth, I bought a Nord lead. Thanks for reminding me about it. Good times.
The cure for “options paralysis” is to give yourself fewer options, @jwmmakerofmusic 😉
Some of my best work has come from giving myself limits on time, or instruments or something else to shake up my routine. Sometimes the end result is a mess, BUT it gets me thinking in a new way.
Unpopular opinion: Possibilities to make any thinkable style of music only on iPad from beginning to final master are VASTLY larger than people had in multi million dollars studios back in 80’s ..
Yet they didn’t complain about lack of this or that and just produced massive hits.
That’s it. It’s about creativity not about having “perfect DAW”. Lack of features is not reason why you don’t finish tracks, it’s lack of creativity.
When I grab my iPad, I feel like I hold in my hands magic tool which allows me to materialise literally ANY musical idea I ever had in my head and I still don’t use even 10% of it’s potential.
Interestingly as much as i am HW-only for some time, this thing msjes me zero GAS. In fact exact opposite - the super crowded UI (in terms of both knobs/buttons and real estate on screen) this represents ALL reasons why I abandoned desktop DAW world almost 15 years ago and never looked back, never did regret.
That sounds like loads of fun. I will definitely invest in G-Stomper Studio soon.
Should be a fun groovebox app to use when on the go.
Hmmm, that's the issue. Trying to figure out what limits to impose upon myself. Even that is limitless in a sense, lol. Auxy Studio, my only complaint with it is too many great options available, lol. Both a blessing and not a blessing at the same time. 😂 But I love it just the same.
Not really an unpopular opinion to be honest.
I agree with this. There's no such thing as a "perfect" DAW, even on desktop. There's only such a thing as "the perfect fit for myself personally" DAW.
Like you, once I got an iPad, I abandoned Windows PCs and never looked back. And for me personally, my "perfect fit" DAW is Cubasis 3. Whether I use it to make the full production start to finish, or I just use it for recording vocals and mastering, it just works.
That said, I'm currently stuck on Auxy Studio for the creative side of things, and I'm loving it.
well that’s because you are one of most creative people I ever met on this platform.. mad respect 🫡
I started even before first iPad was relesed, my first year on iOS was literally just iPod Touch 4 and NS1 (i ordered it from Amazon befause of NS1 release 😂)
I agree, Cubasis is great and only getting better.
Thank you 🙏
Not unpopular with me. 😆
I usually produce dark synthwave but here’s a exemple of metal track I made as a test, if anybody wounder if you can produce metal on iOS.

Cheers mate. I will admit, I've been far, far more creative on this platform than ever on Windows. I was creative on that platform, yes, but not to the degree I am these days. More options on iOS though has its drawbacks - aka the "options paralysis" I mentioned. 😂 It's not a question of "Oh no, I can't think of anything to produce" but rather "which of my many ideas do I produce next?"
Holy shit, basically the same way I started. iPod Touch 4 and NS1, Xewton Music Studio, and FLSM before FLSM 3 was released (back when that made use of the Xewton Music Studio architecture). ❤️
Absolutely agreed! I hope someday Cubasis will receive something like Groove Agent so I no longer need Koala to make drums with, but we shall see if and when that day will arrive.
Of course mate.
Auria Pro has really clicked with me! But I’m bummed i invested so much in fabfilter apps in it that i can’t use outsideof Auria pro! I will never do that again. I think Fabfilter should gives us some kind of credit when we purchase the individual apps.
So far it’s been ok but not rock solid. Yesterday i spent hours with Roland Zenbeats and it was rock solid as well as Cubasis!
I might invest in Tonebooster apps this coming Black Friday specials to make up for Fabfilters.
