Can it be the source clock via midi?

Comments

  • It can be a midi clock master, so no problem there. However, you will need to get the 5-pin DIN midi into your device, and you'll need a DAW that can follow midi clock. (AUM can't.)

Do you have an audio or MIDI interface that's capable of taking 5-pin DIN input?

  • It certainly looks cool, but heavy price tag imho, $500. I only say that cause you could get a sick drum machine for same amount and trigger that with midi pedal if needed.

Maybe not, I’m no hardware expert, and didn’t read through the details. So basically I don’t know, lol.

BeatBuddy has got smarts for live accompaniment that you won't find in any drum machine I can think of.

  • Thanks Poppadocrock and wim for your responses….i have Logic Pro DAW, but no 5pin DIN input….the BB2 has MIDI in and out so maybe LP could be master clock sync? I’m going to try to use BB2 as the master clock sync and send to my headrush prime and send clock to LP….

@wim, the new BB2 has a lot of new features for live performance.

Logic Pro can't slave to midi clock, so the Headrush Prime can't be the master clock. Both the BB2 and Headrush will need to slave to Logic's clock.

If the HeadRush supports midi through, or if it can slave to Logic Pro while sending clock over 5pin din to the BB2, you might be able to sync everything up.

Otherwise, with a USB hub and a 5 pin DIN MIDI to USB cable, you could slave both the BB2 and the HeadRush to Logic Pro. That is if you even need clock in the HeadRush if the BB2 is taken care of.

(I'm assuming the headrush USB connection is class compliant and works with iOS.)

Thanks wim, that's very helpful...I did forget one thing...I'm using a DI interface that has MIDI (Scarlett 4i4) so MAYBE BB2 could master clock and DI could slave?

"DI could slave"? Sorry, I don't understand.

Did you mean Logic Pro could slave? No, even if you get the clock to the iPad, Logic Pro can't slave to midi clock. It has to be the master.

If the Scarlett can do midi through for clock, then the beat buddy could follow Logic.
