Just bought a16 iPad a cpl of questions

Hi,

So I have a usb c ipad now and an older audio4 + which is usb 2..and want to connect them . I went thru the Jacob hub thread and it’s too much😀

So I think I need a hub like this

UGREEN Revodok Pro USB C Hub 9-in-1, Multiport Adapter with 4K@60Hz HDMI, 2 USB-C 3.2, USB-A 3.2 & 3.0, SD/TF 170MB/s, RJ45, PD 100W, Compatible with MacBook Air/Pro, iPad Pro, Steam Deck :

And this

Audio4+—> USB-B to USB-A cable——>USB-A (male) end into USB-C hub USB-A (female) port——>USB-C (male) end to iOS USB-C (female) port.

Does that sound kosher?

And for charging my a16 usb c iPad I need what apple multimedia device?

I’m sorry but I’m sick ..chemo....and my thinking isn’t optimum.

Thanks for help and I can’t buy an audio4c

  • Recently I got an Arturia minifuse 2 audio interface to use with my iPad A16. The main reason is that it’s got a USB port on it meaning I can plug this straight into the iPad. It’s also got another port on it in which I plug in a MIDI controller. As a guitar player I have the option of plugging in a guitar or bass and a mic, or both. I can also plug in studio monitors if I wish, and of course some headphones. I can do all this without extra USB hubs.

For my use case I don’t need anything else. The minifuse 2 does it all for me. I must remember to check if the Apple adaptor can be used so it charges the iPad while I’m using it. Not needed to use it so far.

  • Hi,
Glad you found something that works....

My question is about using an usb2 audio interface and a usb c iPad.

Does the minifuse take power from the ipads battery?
Or is it better to get a interface with its own charger like Ua volt 1

It takes it from the iPad’s battery. Before I do any work I make sure it’s got a decent amount of charge on it. I don’t know anything about Ua volt 1, sorry.

The UGREEn is a powered USB- hub and it should work fine. Reason to use a powered hub is to not drain the iPad battery. The PD (Power Delivery) will both charge your iPad and power any common peripheral like an audio interface, controller and such. You also seem to have found the right adapter for your cable between the iPad and the hub, USB -B to USB-C.

Only thing missing is to power the USB- hub itself and since it has PD 100W I would advice you to get something at least 65W+, the more the better. I see on Amazon they recommend the Anker 735 65W, should work fine, don’t forget the cable between the hub and the Anker. My take here is to get a longer power cable so you won’t have to be close to an outlet, depending of course on where your setup is in the house.

Feel free to chime in here if you need more help from us. Good luck!

Beware though that the USB-B port on the back of the Minifuse 2 is for communication mainly, it won’t power any more power hungry peripherals, over 250 mA according to Arturia. Got a Minifuse 2 myself and the power out is not sufficient for my Launchkey 61 for example, better to use the USB-hub for that job.

    Thanks DM fan!

Of course when I went to purchase the hub it was no longer available🙁 when it rains it pours.
I found another brand for cheaper, says it works with a bunch of iPads....I do have a robust power charger with an usb c connection. And the hub say pd 100.

You were very clear for me .....thanks a lot! And thx for the wishes..I need em😀

First of all, wishing you the best for your health.

With a usb-c port, you can just get a usb-b to usb-c cable and your interface should work fine. A usb-c hub with power delivery would let you charge your iPad while using the interface, but for times when you want to just be without any power plugs, the b to c cable should do nicely for you.

  • Thx mrufino.

Nice to know I don’t need the apple thingamabob. The whole package gets delivered today. 🤞

I’ve got a couple of powered USB hubs so I’m covered there. I’m on a minimalist trip at the mo so only using the bare essentials. My setup, minilab 3, minifuse 2 and CB3, seems to be working well for me at present. Keystep 37 works ok as well. Wish I’d done this minimalist thing years ago. I’d have saved a fortune!

    Sorry, I digress 😃
