AI for music, but with your own lyrics?

Been thinking of having a play around with some of these AI music apps going around, however all of them seem to have onerous copyright and usage restrictions, unless you buy the "gazillion $ multi monthly pack with the lot"!

And even then you are restricted.

So my question is if you bring your own lyrics, and even a few chords of your own,can you still copyright the song? Even though these AI app owners claim all copyright and/or usage rights belong to them.

Onerous copyright restrictions after they literally stole the world’s musical catalogue to train their models?

Chord progressions are not protected under copyright law in the U.S. That's the reason fake books can exist; they give you the chords to a song but not the melody.

Regarding Suno's licensing, I think your explanation of how it works is a little incomplete or confusing. Yes, under the free plan you don't get ownership of the resulting music and you cannot copyright it. That seems reasonable, no?

Under the paid plans you have full ownership of the resulting music, and this persists even if you cancel your Suno subscription. Under these plans Suno places no restrictions on copyright. Whether it can be copyrighted depends not on Suno, but on the relevant copyright law in whatever jurisdiction you live. For example, if it were ever definitively decided that AI generated music can't be copyrighted, then you would not be able to hold a copyright. If relevant law allows it to be copyrighted, then as owner you surely would have a copyright. You can see Suno's explanation here: https://help.suno.com/en/articles/2746945
