DAW I can use for live work with a playlist function?
Does anyone know if ANY of the current crop of DAWs for iOS would have a tool/function to allow playing projects live?
Something like a "playlist" or "Jukebox" function?
Ideally one that will allow dynamic section of projects via MIDI.
Haha, not asking too much hey!

Which apps do you consider DAWs? Lopy Pro has playlists.
I write backing tracks and instead of constantly needing to transfer the bounced track out to an iOS device, I'd rather simply use the project (on the iPad) . In that way, if I decide on minor edits or changes, I don't have to go through the entire process of editing saving bouncing saving and then transferring. Just do the edit and it's ready for the next show.
I can't think of anything better than Loopy Pro in answer to the specific question. It's not a full featured DAW in comparison to something like Cubasis or Logic Pro, but for transitioning through projects it can hardly be beat. PC selection is there, glitch free transitions (within reason), optional quantization to loop, bars/beats, crossfade, effect tails, preloading of Audio Units, copying mixer levels, set lists, specific project or previous/next project ...
I'm not even sure purpose built apps such as Camelot Pro, StageLight, and Sessions have all of those features. And they're not DAWs.
No outright DAW is going to have performance ready features like that. Except maybe Logic Pro? I can't say. Never touched it.
Thanks wim...I have been sorta looking at LP, not for these reasons, but having a look to see if i can get my head around it. Might be worth another try....I get "brain fog" about an hour after starting to try and unravel it, hahaha!
yup, there's a lot to it. But if you start with a single imported backing track and a few inputs and plugins per project, you can get a pretty good idea of what switching between sessions would be like. It's usually when people try to customize complex workflows that they get lost in the weeds.
FWIW, for many the path into LP is to start with a template from the sample projects or patchstorage that is already along the lines of what you want rather than learning the nuts and bolts and building from scratch.
good tip...didn't realise there would be any for what I am looking at.
What sort of thing are you looking for?
TRY THE FREE LITE VERSION:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/keystage-lite/id1437899019
KeyStage is a master controller, AUv3 host, and audio mixer app designed mainly for keyboard players. With KeyStage, you can simultaneously control any number of hardware and software instruments using any number of MIDI controllers in an organized way.
Each project consists of sections (which corresponds to sections of a song). In each section you can change sounds and sound parameters of connected instruments, create complex splits and layers of your keyboard(s), change the functionalities of sliders/ knobs/pedals of your MIDI controllers by creating advanced MIDI mappings, write your own scripts, view PDF and JPG files (e.g.| sheet music) and lyrics, and much more.
I bought the full version for £29.99 and it is worth every penny. I arrange all my backing tracks in Cubasis 3 and then import the wav file into the KeyStage audio player, you can set markers on the wav file that will change sections containing any number of synths as you are playing without cutting off any sounding notes. I also use Cubasis as the audio player and send MIDI CC# into KeyStage to change synths and sheet music, both ways are easy to do, now I only need to use just one MIDI keyboard.
As it states at the top of this post, the lite version is free, it will give you some idea of what’s on offer, especially if you watch the tutorials in the PREFERENCE section.
If you try it and want any help just give me a shout.
Hope this helps,
Mike

The more I think about it, I am moving more toward something like Logic Pro. As I need to sometimes mute parts, edit out sections, apply efx in various forms, etc....Not sure a looper, even as good as LP, is going to do the full job. And it will have (as it is pretty much a DAW) a smaller learning curve.
Just to be clear, loopy isn’t just for looping. It can do linear recording and playback.
Parts can be muted, levels and fx controlled , timeline navigated.
I'm not sure Logic Pro has the playlist or jukebox functions you mentioned. Anyway, it has a one-month free trial, so should be easy enough to find out.
I would have to agree that if you're looking for full DAW capabilities, Loopy Pro will be somewhat limited in that regard. If all you're looking to do is what you mentioned above, the pieces are there in Loopy for those basic tasks.
thanks...yes you and espiegel are correct I think...might still need to look at Loopy Pro but figure how to get the tracks into it. As opposed to loading finalised MP3 files
I don't understand what you mean by what you just said, but I hope you're able to arrive at a solution that provides what you need.
haha, sorry....I do the backing tracks with sometimes three or four different tracks. I play bass and most keys/synths live. I use the tracks for guitars, bass lines too tricky for one hand, some string and synth lines etc etc.
What I do now is bounce all those down in Reaper (on PC) to wav files ( I was using MP3 till I got a bigger storage iPad) , then get those single tracks onto the iPad for linking to charts/notes whatever. Issue is it is a "fixed" system on the iPad. If I want to change a file, or even do a quick key mod for an ad hoc singer, or mute tracks on the fly for a "sit in" guitarist, I need to go through that entire process again.
If I could use a DAW (or in this case LP) where all the original parts are still separate I can even do that dynamically at a gig. Not to mention all the "double (and sometimes triple) handling of one song!
And believe it or not I DO, at odd times, get a guitarist in the crowd who just happens to have his axe and suggests a "sit-in set" and singers for that matter too.
Although, hahahaha! occasionally it is a mistake
It happens! And for the most part, it creates a more interesting show for the other punters.
All you just said is very simple in Loopy Pro. I don't see anything challenging about any of it.
Large pitch shifts changes might be a little problematic for pre rendered audio clips. Audio pitch shifting is excellent in Loopy Pro, but any pitch shifting is going to come at the cost of some amount of audio quality, no matter what tools you use. Loopy is about the best there is though, and can even work quite well on the fly. Of course those are non-issues with MIDI.
At any rate, pitch shifting a project is easy and can be done at the push of a button or turn of a dial if you care to set it up.
hahaha, glad you think it's simple
It's a TOTALLY new paradigm for me!........pitch shifts are no more that 2 semis up or down so no dramas there.
What I mean is there are no special tricks to it - not that there isn't anything new to learn. All that you've mentioned so far is standard functionality.
However, you might want to also seriously consider something purpose built already, such as Camelot Pro or KeyStage.
I own both and use Camelot pretty extensively and while it can do some of it (albeit awkwardly) it cannot do the additional stuff like you mentioned for LP...well, not that I know of. And Keystage is arcane!
Follow question please...can I import and then edit WAV audio tracks directly into LP?
You can import audio files. Loopy Pro doesn’t have destructive editing. You can trim clips and events in the timeline.
thanks. Seems I waited too long to get into trialling it. Only option now is to spend $50 and buy it, hahaha, oh well probs not such a bad thing in the end I guess
