iPAD MIDI latency

Hey all - I'm still a bit of a newbie with iPad music making, and hopefully this is easily resolved.

I've got a setup with an ipad, circuit tracks, arturia drumbrute, a UR22 audio interface and a midi keyboard. This is all going in via a USB hub.

Using Cubasis, but also Drambo, when I record MIDI coming in from the circuit tracks or the arturia drumbrute (both USB midi synced, slaved to the iPad), I notice that the notes are recorded ever so slightly late (talking miliseconds here). I thought I would be able to compensate for that by using the MIDI offset (to a negative value), but I can't get the notes to come in precisely on-beat.

When I use the same devices on my Windows PC (win11, Cubase 14 Pro), when I record MIDI, it's bang on.

I tried removing the MIDI hub, but no luck there either.

Any ideas??

  • OK - so, I did some further tests. When I set Drambo to sync to the MIDI clock from the Drumbrute (rather than the other way around), the recorded MIDI notes from the Drumbrute are exactly on the grid. So, my (preliminary) conclusion is that the MIDI clock provided by the iPad (Drambo or Cubasis) has got some issues with latency (at least in my particular setup)
