Don’t Look Under The Bed
With Halloween approaching, I thought I might try a scary sounding piece. The mix is a bit muddy, but my wife wanted to make the 1:00 matinee showing of “Good Fortune” at Hollywood Boulevard, so I posted what I had at the time. I might do a remix, or not. BTW It’s a really fun movie. I highly recommend it. Sweet dreams.

Wouldn't classify this as Ambient but rather Cinematic! That was a trip.
Great builds, if David lynch ever did synthwave it’d probably sound like this. Spooky indeed, in an 80s carpenter type way. Tis the season, thanks for sharing!
Good Fortune DID look fun, already in my watch list, but moved further to the top 👍. If I may, have to recommend One Battle After Another. Runtime is long but one of those that didn’t feel like it. DiCaprio was great but Sean penn stole the show, imo. And the OST by Johnny greenwood is marvelous
Hi Jim! I don’t really know much about musical genres. I just make it up as I go along. Cinematic is cool, but we probably wouldn’t go to see a movie with my soundtracks. She likes dog movies and love stories. I just drive the car and pay for the tickets. Looking forward to the next track with your gal.
Thank you so much mate.
I appreciate it.
And, hehe, I like dog movies and love stories as well as dark gritty noir movies and the occasional horror flick.
David Lynch is probably my favorite filmmaker. I’ve seen everything he has done. Eraserhead was the first. Do you remember The Lady In The Radiator? In Heaven Everything is fine. Wild At Heart is another good one. I started using a phrase from that movie. For example, when my wife tells me what’s for dinner, I say Rockin’ Good News!.
I will keep an eye out for that movie. Sean Penn is always entertaining. Hopefully it will play at Hollywood Boulevard. That’s the only place we go. They serve decent food and have a full bar. We have gotten to know Joe the bartender. He makes a proper Martini, and we tip him well. He has three kids, works at least three jobs, and we do what we can to help.
“Damn fine coffee” for me haha!
May the world be full of such genuine people as you 🤙
Thanks, bro. We’re not wealthy. We barely have two nickels to rub together, but we try.
Awesome!
Very spooky and unsettling (I see where JWM gets “cinematic” from). Great textures and tones, I find the effected vocal and piano part very effective and unlike anything I’ve heard before. When the first of those blasts come in I nearly sh*t myself!
Love how it resolves into the solo piano at the end
I'm enjoying this very much, and also it's perfect for the Halloween season. I agree with jwmmakerofmusic, this has a very nice cinematic feel to it
Unlike anything I’ve heard before - Wow! That’s quite a compliment. Thank you.
I nearly sh*t myself - Me too. That was a complete accident. It started out as a new MIDI track in Cubasis. The original idea was a simulated heartbeat. I punched in some half notes and routed it to a random synth. I think I used Sugarbytes Factory. It has some loud presets. I forgot to turn down the volume. It’s set to 0db by default. When that part came up, it nearly knocked the fillings out of my teeth. I had to rip my headphones off. I thought, I need to fix that…. or maybe not. The effect reminded me of the scene in Psycho when “mother” appears at the top of the stairs. I tried a few different sounds and settled on a bowed cello and bass with some ugly distortion, and a few other things all layered up. I took off all additional reverb and just ran it dry. It just sounded more ominous like that.
Thank you for noticing! Your comment made me LOL, literally. Have a great day!
@Pxlhg @brisket Thank you, gents. Happy Halloween. I like Halloween. We now live in a condo and don’t get many kids ringing our doorbell. It’s a shame to waste all of that candy, so I eat it all myself!
One of my favorites of yours. I agree with @jwmmakerofmusic in that it is “cinematic”. Perhaps not in the genre sense since I know nothing about genres either. Cinematic in that it’s a soundtrack to a movie my head makes up around it. To me that’s the best music. I’m afraid though that said movie is going to keep me up tonight. Will have to leave a light on. I think Halloween was invented by dentists to drum up business. Candy indeed.
we call em “chic-flicks” 🤣 around these parts.
Great track btw! Definitely has the spooky vibe.

lolol I would to 🤣🤣🤣 Happy Halloween!
My wife loves watching the Hallmark Channel. She even calls them chick flicks, and is proud of it.
"I'm watching a chick flick. Go play with your iPad!".
Repetitive stories and themes, but always a bit of drama and a happy ending. She likes a bit of drama, now and then. Do you remember this one...
I have quite a few ideas for visuals, but I just don't feel like learning a new technology at this point in life. I wish @MadeofWax was still around. We stay in contact occasionally. He's got a lot of other things going on. Say a few prayers. Maybe somebody on the forum would be interested?
I like the Snickers "Fun Size". Are we having fun yet?
Not sure what I just listened to but I enjoyed it…
Funnily enough I’m not a fan of the vocal section from about 1:30ish, unlike MistaG which just proves you can’t please all of the people … blah, blah
I am a fan of the percussive piano towards the end, very nice 👌
I always enjoy your little glimpses into life where you live 😊
There is a little story behind that vocal bit. Imagine a little kid trying to fall asleep, but he thinks there is something under the bed. Common sense tells him there is absolutely nothing there. He hears a little voice calling to him, urging him to have a look. He summons up his courage and leans over, knowing there is nothing there. To his abject terror... there's something there!!!
If you get a chance, listen with that visual in mind.
I had a similar experience when I was about 8. I heard a tapping sound. I was afraid to turn over and look. When I did, I saw a giant hand reaching up and over the bed! I jumped up and turned on the light. The blanket had become twisted and looked like a hand in the moonlight coming through the window. I must have yelled because Mom came in and asked me what was wrong. I told her that I just had a bad dream about the Creature From The Black Lagoon. It's funny that I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday, but I still remember that horrible hand.
Some really cool sound design stuff in here; I like the section with the drums that come in at around 2:40, that part works the best for me.
Tense more than scary., IMHO. MUSIC IF PERFECT FOR CREATING TENSION. GOOD JOB, BRO!
Yep, cinematic & tense, perfect for tonight. Happy Hallowe'en!
@klownshed @LinearLineman @pbelgium Thank you, my friends. I love this forum. I hope you all have a great weekend. We’re going to The Greek Islands for lunch tomorrow. A bottle of Roditis and flaming cheese. Opaaaaaa!
Music and good food are both great escapes from day to day drudgery and politics. Enjoy!
