A Quick One

A day late and a dollar short…

I started this when @jwmmakerofmusic posted an October challenge to put something together in an hour.

Needless to say, being November, I missed the target.

Still, even if no one else listens, hope you appreciate I tried Jim 😂

  • That was a nice tune. :) I really enjoyed it mate. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Jim. Everything in one hour was a hell of a challenge though!

Yeah, fun for sure. I hadn’t played the dulcimer for a while either, so it was a good challenge to just play and see where things went.

  • At first this reminded me of an old Celtic folk song. Then it began to feel like something Led Zeppelin might have done. I wouldn't have been surprised to hear Robert Plant, followed by the whole band in a huge thundering chorus. I also tried the One Hour Challenge. I couldn't do it. Sounds easy in theory. As Yogi Berra said...

In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is.

    Nice song!

    Nice song!

Thank you for all of this! I did have in mind putting a vocal on, but I would have needed much more than an hour to get there.

In the hour it broke down to something like:

    • 15 minutes of improvisation to get the basic structure
    • didn’t have any mics or mixer set up, so recorded it on my iPhone in one take, so about 5 minutes taken up
    • 30 minutes of applying EQ, finding granular FX to get more of a drone sound, and applying reverb
    • 10 minutes of throwing a flanger on one section when I noticed the time, exporting the audio, and mastering it

I think Jim had a really good idea there for this challenge.

  • Giving this one bump before it drops too far down the threads.

  • I'm with @Paulieworld, could really hear Robert Plant singing on this, or maybe Ian Anderson. Nice playing! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, I appreciate the listen, and I’m flattered by hearing that same comparison twice now!

Maybe I should play the dulcimer more often!

  • Superb… more please… you can even take more than an hour if you need it 👌

Thank you! I probably would have added more if I had more than an hour, but I was trying the one hour challenge.

Maybe another dulcimer piece is my next project then.

Well it definitely paid off well. :)
