Imagine a sampler that…
Allows you to simply type in the phrase you want to trigger in real-time, with a multitude of voice options and editing in a 16 midi pad interface
Often, I’ll make a hook that kind of sounds like a phrase and I’ll either record the vocals or defer to a Text to Speech engine and have to save and then import the sounds, etc….
It would be dope to be able to select a pad, type in a phrase and then be able to mangle it all within the same app.
Well, one’s coming.
Someone else will do a proper write up, but Cem has made something absolutely killer that is unlike any other sampler available on iOS.
Fans of speak and spells and koala are gonna fkn love it. I already ❤️ it.
I’m able to type in any word or phrase I want, select a variety of voices, and then you have some really wild editing/playback options and you have 16 assignable midi pads for each phrase for multi-timbral performances. You can turn your text into an instrument and get some really wild sounds.
It’s like a hybrid of Vancouver/Koala/Speak and Spell and Text to speech synthesis all within one mpc/koala type interface.
It’s pretty exciting.. it saves me from having to juggle between 3 or 4 apps to get what I’m looking for and it can all be edited in real-time for performances.
Plus it has a super dope icon.
More info is sure to come, but fans of Speak and Spell/Koala/ Text to Speech are gonna dig it.
Does this sound interesting or did I botch the hype? I’m just super excited about it, all of Cem’s stuff is just fun.

Musically-oriented text-to-speech stuff seems like it should be bigger on iOS, but there really isn’t much out there.
I will definitely be snapping this one up when it comes out.

It’s got some quirks, and it’s obviously oriented more towards Japanese users, but you can do some fun stuff with it. And they seem to be making functionality improvements; it’s much less buggy and crash prone then when I first started using it.
It’s got a buttload of presets Cem’s preset system is getting better and better each iteration, imo.
Since it uses the apple speech to text thing, you can make it sound robotic or natural ( tons of voices )
I tend to gravitate toward vocoded phrases like in Wreath of Barbs, or Daydream in Blue and find that being able to just type in the phrases and instantly have them roboticized or not is pretty cool. It beats automating humanoid, but humanoid also sounds great slapped onto it.
I’m finding more and more creative ways to use it and will post some better videos, folks like ninobeatz, gavinski and leo will have better write ups for sure.
It’s a really fun app… imagine feeling sassy in public and instead of recording yourself out loud and being cringe in public, you can politely type out out your sass in real-time and it never has to become an embarrassing viral video of you, and you can still feed those 😈 ‘s.

My favorite text to speech synth right now is Eleven Labs (free) it’s all naturally sounding voices but has the absolute best range- There’s one voice I gravitate towards a lot, it’s some Rock DJ who sounds like a radio DJ or 90’s voice over artist for films… ( think… one man, one mission)

It's all in Drambo's speech synth (formant IAP) that lets you use Apple's own text to speech engine. There is a huge library of voices available for free download, see Settings => Accessibility => Spoken Content.
Choose "1 Line" mode if you want to trigger each text line by a different pad.
And a simple chord & vocoder setup:

There's not much Dambo can't do, it's more a matter of knowing how to do it
Personal wish would be to allow quick 'drag'n'drop' of the generated speech-sample to Flexi Sampler for slicing and dicing.
For now there's an extra step of having to record the speech oscillators output into Flexi Sampler in case slicing is needed.
I periodically make attempts to try Drambo again for exactly this reason, but I can never manage to click with the workflow/interface.
It’s just never become intuitive for me to use 🤷♀️
I mostly like more synthetic/robotic sounding stuff, but something like that “In a world…!” movie trailer voice would definitely be cool for certain things
Nothing wrong with that. People's preferences are different, luckily.
On the other hand, there are more and more helpful people on the forum and it doesn't hurt asking if you have something specific in mind.
