Severe static with effects plugins

Hi I am in need of help please.
When I add an effect to an input or clip either pre or post fade (it does not matter where I put it) I get extreme amounts of static. It's like the gain is cranked?
Even if I start a project from scratch it's the same.
I try putting it on the audio input or the clip and it does the same. Everything else seems to be working OK.
I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
My goal is to put some effects on my guitar.
Even if I use the built in effects like reverb etc it still plays back really bad static.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Without more details, it is impossible to speculate.

Please make a screen recording that shows the issue and which has the mixer visible.

yes sorry, I was working on that. I posted too soon as I was gathering information.

However it seems that it is specific to the AUV3 itself. I bought tone stack and It appears my tone stack app works fine but others don't. So problem solved I guess? for anyone's information it seems like the Nembrini apps are an issue for me.

    Sorry for the false alarm.

Nembrini apps work fine for me -- and I use them pretty regularly. Perhaps, it has to do with how you have them set up. If you could provide the information I mentioned, we can better advise you

  • All the gazillion Nembrini apps I have work great in Loopy Pro, so it has to be solvable. 👍🏼

  • So I can’t post a video here but here is a link to a video I did with the problem shown

  • I can’t even attach a photo to this thread. Everything is “too big”
    So yeah that’s pretty annoying
How are people posting photos and screen shots here?

Screenshots taken on the device or photos? I’ve not heard of a screenshot being too large to post

What sample rate and buffer size?

    What is the input?

    What OS are you running?

The sound i hear sounds like amplified hum. What happens if you turn down the gain in Crunk?

Yup, that definitely sounds like Crunk amplifying guitar pickup hum and buzz on a high-gain preset.

If there is mains power plugged into the iPad or any interface attached to it, eliminating that can do wonders for reducing noise. When I need power when recording guitar, I resort to a battery bank as I can't eliminate the noise any other way. Otherwise, you might need to use a noise gate plugin, or see if there are other ways to clean up that signal.

  • Everthing is on stock settings, factory default

The input is the iPad mic (this is a new project)

latest is from Apple, everything up to date

I have messed with the settings for gain etc and nothing gets better

I change the effect to my Tonebridge and all is good

I am happy with Tonebridge but if it happens to Someone else on here it may be interesting

Oh and I just want to upload a photo of my screen, but that is too big so I would have to do screen shots etc.

I will sign in later and get the system settings screen shot

  • Do you know how to do a screenshot without having to take a photo of your screen? You should be able to upload a screenshot with no problem.

You're taking input from the iPad Mic and running that through an amp sim like Crunk?? That's a recipe for feedback and all kinds of sound problems.

Loopy attempts echo cancellation, but if you're using the mic, then that sound is coming out the speakers and is picked up by the mic ... and comes out the speakers ... and goes to the mic. Bad juju.

  • Yes I agree I was doing that to demonstrate it happens with a completely blank slate, had I shown my normal screen it would have introduced more questions.

It happens no matter what Input I use, and does not happen when I use tone bridge or any other app such as EQ etc

I know how to take a screen shot, but that device is not the one I am responding on. It’s silly that this forum can’t accept a photo or a video but I digress

  • In that case, the video doesn't really tell us much that would help resolve the issue.

Do you have another app such as AUM that you can try the same signal path and plugin with? I'm convinced this isn't a Loopy Pro issue, but there isn't much to go on to speculate what it could be.

As for photo upload, it might be the format. If you're taking the photo from an iPhone, for instance, it may be trying to upload an HEIC format image. You may need to export the photo so that it gets into jpg format. On the other hand, if the device you're posting from is an Apple device, you could airdrop the screen capture to the device you're posting from.

btw, I loaded the default preset from Crunk-v2 and got loud static too. Changing to a lower gain preset acted as expected. That default preset is very high gain. Though the sound was horrible, it's not at all unexpected for that particular preset acting on microphone input. Turning down the Gain knob in Crunk cleaned things up.

Then I loaded the same configuration in AUM, and it behaved and sounded exactly the same.

Both tests were done with headphones, so speaker feedback was not an issue.

  • Yup here you see me with the same blank project, remove the one effect then add in tone bridge and all is good

    https://youtube.com/shorts/Z2hEs9_H38g?si=Gg1vAB6UxYufkcgJ

I don’t think it’s a loopy pro issue but I changed settings in that krunk app and it was still the same problem for me, maybe a little less depending on the preset but if nobody else has problems then it’s all good cause I am using tone bridge and it sounds great (even when using the built in mic)

I think it comes down that app is just not for me :)

The thread title says "plugins". Are there any other plugins than this Crunk-V2 plugin / preset combination that you'd like me to test?

    Same. My poor ears. 😂

  • At the time of posting the thread I had not purchased tone stack, it also happened on another nembrini app the overdrive one but not as bad.

I assumed it was me and not the app.

Now it seems it’s just the app, so I will stick with tone bridge for now

    Thanks for the help!!!

  • OK so I found that I still had some static issues even with the other apps. What I finally discovered is that when running with my power supply on and feeding all my equipment I must get some sort of ground loop problem.

As soon as I removed all external power and ran my scarlet 2i2 direct off my Ipad everything is sounding a lot better.
Only problem now is that I am using Bluetooth for my foot triggers and there is more lag then when it was hard wired.

Next step is to find a better way to power everything, then re-test the apps.

BTW I could actually hear static as I dragged my finger across the ipad! that's how bad it was.

I love loopy pro and have lots of things I want to do with it. Hopefully I can get past this interference and onto the fun stuff soon!

Thank all for your assistance. I will update after I do more testing.
