Phryg in D Dom - AUM LIve Jam

Hi
Not been around here for a while but decided to create a live AUM Jam in D Phrygian Dominant.

With Piano Motifs playing Pure Piano, Riffler playing a riff (both in Phrygian D Dominant), drums by Lumbeats Rock Drummer and a live improvisation using GeoShred - all on iPad Pro 2018.

  • Phrygian dominant is definitely one of my favorite scale. Very nice track.

  • Thanks @cuscolima . Yes it is great for Middle Eastern vibes. Thanks for listening.

  • Pure Piano and Riffler! Very cool pairing of contrasting instruments. It works.

  • Cool jam @AlterEgo_UK 😎 🔥!

  • I understand Phrygian but what does dominant mean.

Phrygian mode (3rd mode of the major scale)

    Formula: 1 – ♭2 – ♭3 – 4 – 5 – ♭6 – ♭7
Characteristic sound: dark, moody, “Spanish/Arabic,” but still minor because of the ♭3.

    Example in E Phrygian:
    E – F – G – A – B – C – D

Phrygian Dominant (5th mode of harmonic minor)

    Formula: 1 – ♭2 – 3 – 4 – 5 – ♭6 – ♭7
Characteristic sound: strongly Middle Eastern / flamenco / metal. The major 3rd gives it the “dominant” quality.

Example in E Phrygian Dominant (from A harmonic minor):
    E – F – G♯ – A – B – C – D

So, basically the dominant Phyrigian has a major 3rd rather than a flattened (minor) 3rd

Just when I think I'm starting to understand a few things :D
