I have an M1 Air 11 inch. I find the M1 still perfectly fine for most things. I'm not a real power user with my iPad though, but if you wanted it for power uses, you would probably just be buying the latest iPad Pros.
I would have thought that most M chip models will be supported for quite a few years to come.
That's what I use. I bought mine second hand about 2.5 or 3 years ago. Mostly I still find it absolutely fine (note that I don't often use super low buffers).
Some desktop ports cause the screen to heat up significantly to an extent I feel is unhealthy. GRFX from Imaginando is one of the worst offenders but there are a few others.
In general, if you're buying second hand, and you do pretty heavy music making sessions, I'd recommend getting a newer model if you care about being able to use the iPad for as long as possible after buying. My 2nd and 3rd Gen Pros both felt pretty old after about 4 to 5 years. I can't imagine getting more than about 2 or 3 years more, maximum, out of this M1 Pro before it starts to feel old.
If you want to use Logic Pro with computationally intensive AUv3s, I would also recommend a current iPad Pro.
Many tracks with Session Player and some AUv3 effects occasionally cause "CPU overload" messages on my M1 12.9“ and it is not possible to continue working. Unless you reduce the computationally intensive components of the song.
Otherwise, the M1 is quick and easy to use for a normal user.
Thanks for your thoughts and information . I have now a ipad Pro 11 and it's great, but I find it a bit too small when working in Drambo.
If it's a good price you should grab it. You can always re-sell it if you decide it's not working for you. I got M1 13" and I love mine. Works well. As you've already got a Pro 11, I think they can both work and sync together easily.
