Should I get cubasis iOS now
Hi,
I’m tired of trying to make a daw with the combination of apps I have. BM3 would be it but a killer bug.....overlapping notes don’t record, so no fast rolls from an electronic Drumkit.......I’m now looking at Cubasis.
I heard it goes on sale like in April or so. It’s expensive @50$ but I’m losing time.
Thing is if it’s reliable and does what it says efficiently....cpu wise I’ll bite.
Any opinions from users of cubasis iOS? Especially with an ekit?

I can’t advise you on whether you should get Cubasis 3, just want to mention that you don’t need to wait til April for a sale, it’s currently on sale for 25 bucks.

As you correctly already said: don't try to make a daw combining apps, just use a DAW. I like Logic Pro more but Cubasis is a perfectly fine choice and a well refined app.
CPU-wise Cubasis is the most efficient DAW on the platform, it uses multithreading and also supports large buffer sizes so you can use more plugins with it than with any of the others.
I paid for a year subscription with Logic for iPad a while back. When the subscrition ended, I bought a Mac and have not looked back to be honest. I use my iPad for other musical uses now, but when I want a DAW experience and dont want to shell out for Logic, I always reach for Cubasis! Cubasis seems the most stable experience on iPad in my experience. Can get a bit expensive if like me you end up buying all the iaps.
Cubasis 3 is my number one DAW app. Even though I've created music in other apps, I always circle back to Cubasis 3 for vocal recording and mastering. All the IAPs such as Halion sounds, FM Classics and NeoFM, etc provide me with most of all I need. And for a drum module (which Cubasis 3 currently lacks), I use Koala Sampler as a plugin.
And Cubasis is a very sturdy app! I've experienced maybe one crash, and that was due to a plugin failing on me (I forget which one) as opposed to Cubasis failing on me.
I'd say since it's on sale, you should buy it @FlowingRobes ! Much easier than cobbling together a make-shift DAW in AUM or whatever.
EDIT: Plus, Cubasis 3 can be used on iPhone as well as iPad.
I got the whole enchilada on sale. Honest I just looked 48 hrs ago and went and got 60$ in gift card planning to just buy the app. Wrote this post then went to buy and bam....best thing that’s happened to me in awhile😇

I'm thinking about switching to Cubasis because I'm sick of the subscription model for LP, but I will definitely miss Drummer on LP. I suck at programming drums so that's really convenient for me to have.

My family heard me rocking away so loud while they were just returning from shopping, they thought I had the church drummer jamming with me in the studio! They were so amazed when they saw it was just my Lumbeats drumming app! Lol
One workaround is to leverage the Drummers in GarageBand for some exported tracks to use in other DAWs.
There's a way to get garage band tracks to output in Cubasis, but it involves a plugin that adds some necessary delay. I don't often find that method to be any more convenient than just exporting and importing.
Yeah I've been meaning to get it. Learning curve seems steep but it looks more than capable for what I need it for.

MTS is more efficient CPU wise I'm fairly sure, testing same set of cpu hungry apps on both.
Cubasis has other advantages feature wise, and MTS has yet others. It would be a very interesting very detailed comparison. One example of the trade offs: MTS has an unusual workflow, an issue for some. Cubasis is very homey, for those coming from other timeline style DAWs.
I particularly like Cubasis for its handling of multi out apps like Dialekt, Battalion, and Drambo (MTS doesnt do multi-out) . I also like Cubasis DAWproject files export
I'm on break with FLSM. 😂 I will return to it someday.

I'm surprised, because I don't think MTS is multithreaded, whereas Cubasis is. The only way to be sure is to keep adding plugins until you get crackling, making sure of course to set the project latency to the maximum value possible.
If MTS actually is multithreaded I'm happy to be corrected.

For my informal test I used 5 apps in both, same midi programming for each, Cyclop, Phasemonkey and 3 Model 15s (pad presets). I usually have trouble with the 15 in other DAWs especially with pads.
Crackles in Cubasis, none in MTS, and Cubasis tracked showing higher percentage cpu use in an app I have called Memory and Disk Scanner Pro.
Informal for sure. I’m on an Air 4, iOS 16.6 if that matters.
Crackles would tell the story, CPU usage isn't reliable because the CPU meters don't know when the low-power cores are active.
I hate crackles, of course, but I am most likely to assume it’s my old ass iPad

Garageband is free and has drummers.
This.☝️I sometimes use Garageband to record guitars to import into, say, a piece of Country music I'm producing. Very robust.
Edit: Also, Garageband is able to be used on iPhone.
No settings, the software uses the available resources as efficiently as its code allows. Since changing to an iPad Air 5 M1 with 8 gigs of RAM I have had basically no issues at all with crackling and Zenbeats handles everything I throw at it.
