Snowdrift - guitar-based Post-Rock instrumental.

Melodic guitar track recorded last weekend, additional drums and bass were added in Logic. Other Desert Cities, FAC Alteza, and Modnetic were used and abused in the process. Fuzz tones were from a Big Muff hardware pedal.

  • This sounds great in my headphones. Excellent mix. Big, wide, and well balanced. I haven’t heard anybody mention Big Muff in decades! Those were so much fun. I’m amazed that you have one that still works. Be gentle with it. This track brings back pleasant memories of the Chicago rock club scene back in the 80s. There were so many great local bands and clubs. We had a newspaper called Illinois Entertainer that had page after page advertising local bands to see and hear on Saturday nights. If we weren’t playing, we were out supporting our friends. Everyone knew someone that played in a band. Weekends were a big deal. This may be an instrumental version, but it’s crying out for a singer. Just my two cents. Peace, bro.

Big Muffs are srtill being made and sold by Electro Harmonix, they're awesome fuzz pedals!

I was in a similar musical scene in Manchester in the early 90s, lots of local bands that played together. Truth be told we weren't as good as we thought we were 😆

Thanks for listening and taking the time to comment.

  • Oh man, this was satisfying to listen to. :) Richard, another banger. I can easily hear your vocals on top of this instrumental. I'd offer to do a song overtop, but my voice isn't what it used to be, lol. I don't think autotune would fit well at all in this case.

But whatever the case, you made a banger. :)

  • Nice piece of composing, and some good production on this. It has quite a happy feel compared to a lot of post rock, and that along with the bright guitar sounds makes it a pretty unique sounding piece.

Thanks! You're right, it's got a brighter vibe than most post-rock, it's probably not quite true to the genre.

  • Nice track to chill with.

  • Excellent piece @richardyot! I love it when the drums come in, and the guitar notes/bends which are off key but sound great anyway - very cool. The Big Muff sounds awesome and I feel the temptation to get one again, but they always die. :'(

  • Nice laid back track Richard… I immediately thought of this when I saw Big Muff…

    Thanks!

The only John Martyn album I've ever listened to is Solid Air, this one has a different vibe.

My biggest cultural reference for the Big Muff is kinda different 😆

There's plenty of bright and uplifting post rock.

    Maybe there is :)

The ten or so* artists I know well are all pretty dark, but post-rock is a huge genre and I have only scratched the surface of it.

*Mogwai, Mono, Godspeed You Black Emperor, 65 Days of Static, God is an Astronaut, Caspian, Sigur Ros, This Will Destroy You, Tides of Man, We Lost the Sea, Explosions in the Sky

Ha I think my interpretation of some of those bands is completely different than other people lol. To me Explosions in the Sky can be bright and uplifting at times. I recommend you check out Wander, the album March.

You're welcome, and your song is awesome. I can never figure out what genre I actually want to play but I need to make a post-rock song at some point. Are you working on an EP or album?

You should definitely make some post-rock, I would be first in the queue to listen. If you do post something feel free to tag me so I don't miss it.

I am working on an album of instrumentals, I have about 5 or 6 ready to go. My regular output has vocals, but is highly influenced by post-rock, both in terms of vibe and of dynamics.
