Patterning 3 question

Hey guys, jumped on the sale and it´s amazing. But how on earth is it possible to make smaller notes than 16th?

Thanks!

Comments

  • You can change the note length in… I want to say the Loop tab. So if you halve the length, the sequence will play through twice as fast. Double the length of the sequence and you have 32nd notes.

Step duration! I don’t have my iPad here but I found a blurry screenshot.

  • Oh and an easy way to double or halve a sequence is by holding the alt button, then look in the top right.

  • Ah thanks man! Figured it out.. kind of... Coming from the MPC and never used this kind of sequencer and these Note symbols (instead of 1/16,1/32.... ) driving me crazy. But other than that on of the best apps I have ever purchased for IOS.

In Loopy the App runs smooth, but can't figure out how to send Midi clock back to LP when I press the play button in Patterning. The other way works (form LP to Patterning).

And in Sand I can't get any signal out of Patterning into an other midi Track (Oneshot etc...).

  • Ah, got it :) Step duration to the smallest increment and underneath the steps from 16 to 32.

  • Each voice has audio, midi, or both output options. Not sure how SAND works but you need the midi out on for each voice in P3 to get midi.

  • I know this and had midi turned on. Must try it again, but LP works great so far and Cubasis was a little buggy.

  • Does SAND need it to be loaded as a MIDI effect?

  • Yeah, I tried that too in the settings, but no luck. But hadn't much time to dive deeper. How do you use Patterning?

In Patterning, if you're loaded as a plugin, the host clock is in charge. I'm not aware of a way for a plug-in to control the clock of a host app. Are there other apps that work that way?

As a drum machine, mostly for hip hop/lo fi style beats, for which I love the swing scope. And as a midi sequencer in Loopy Pro, sometimes for synths and sometimes for OneShot or Battalion and stuff like that.

There are also lots of interesting drum kits available. There’s a sweet handpan one that I really dig. Some cool percussion kits.

It’s a super deep app. The playback options, cycling, modulation, probabilities, LFOs, all together can create some insane patterns or just add endless little variations. Great for polyrhythms. Man I could go on and on! It’s just so much fun.

Any host that can follow Ableton Link, such as Loopy Pro and AUM, can work that way through Ableton Link if the plugin can be decoupled from host synchronization and the plugin supports Link when running as a plugin.

For instance, with Loopy Pro running as a plugin in AUM, you can record your first loop without knowing the tempo, have Loopy auto-detect the tempo, and start AUM in sync when you're done recording. Neat trick.

If Patterning 3 plugin could do this, it would be quite useful for tempo automation for the host it's running in. Patterning's ramps between pattern tempos are especially nifty for that.

Great, I use it the same way.... I am heavy into Hiphop, modern Jazz, Dilla and stuff,...
only for acoustic drums either sampled from vinyl inside Koala or plugins like Oneshot. Can't wait to try it with AD2 on my computer.

I am pretty good at fingerdrumming and though the MPC sequencer is amazing I rarely quantize my beats and only nudge single events back and forth. But this plugin is so much faster, it's incredible. Instant Chris Dave, Richard Spaven vibes with a few twists. :-)

Yeah, absolutely. Also for convenience with the big play button in the middle from Patterning instead of a small DAW button outside the window.

You did an amazing job, really really happy with this App. Thanks so much!
THE only one thing I miss about is a UNDO/REDO function. I have lost so many ideas and grooves while tweaking the parameters.
And perhaps: I really would prefer to display the note durations in numbers instead of symbols (or perhaps you could choose which one in the settings menu)...
