SOLVED - Volume Swell Triggered by MIDI Loop?

edited November 2025 in Loopy Pro

QUESTION: How would use a MIDI loop to trigger a volume swell? Say I wanted a volume swell at the beginning of each measure, I know I can make a loop and have a MIDI NOTE at the start of each measure but then what..... ????

CLARIFICATION: Say I have an audio clip of 8 bars, and I play a chord at the very beginning and then a different chord half way through. I want to swell the volume of the color group at these 2 places. I "guess" I can use a MIDI loop to trigger, via a control profile and a widget ..... a change or swell in volume of the color group...... is there a way to have the MIDI loop send something other than a MIDI NOTE message?

Thanks for the help

What exactly do you mean by a volume swell? The details would influence how to do it.

  • The Midi ADSR Mozaic script would be one option. Trigger the envelope, then use the CC from the script to automate the clip volume level or the color fader as appropriate.

  • Would the free flux mini 2 work in this situation as well?

While you can only edit aotes, a midi loop can send any MIDI messages that you record to it. So, lets say you twist a dial on a hardware controller or send a sweep from a midi expression pedal, or send midi from a widget, you can record those messages and the loop will send them out. Loopy has several overdubbing methods that are useful for getting such sweeps to your liking.

If you want a more automated sweep, then the Mozaic script I mentioned could be useful. You could also do the same thing using Drambo as the midi source. I'm sure others would work as well.

There are a number of ways to do it. One way would be to set up midi automation of the swell with a midi cc and record it. See the Tutorial projects in the Sample Projects folder there is a midi automation project.

This wiki page describes how it works:

You could also set up a widget that does the swell by ramping the volume. You could trigger it with midi clips.

And wim’s Mozaic script could be triggered by a midi loop of one-shot.

    Nice idea.
