Yep I bought it. $18 instead of its original (was it?) $40 pricetag made it a steal.
Just don’t try playing Moonlight Sonata then…
Lol! I ended up settling for Ravenscroft. Was on sale.
I only said that because I have been going back to it from time to time, and one of these days I’ll learn the entire thing rather than just the first dozen or so measures. 😁
I know how to play a simplified version, lol. 😂 It's shorter and meant for restaurants and such rather than performing arts centers.
You should give the full thing a go. It’s about 70 measures in total and not really hard to play. The most difficult thing for most people is the finger stretches - you have to be able to reach a 9th, and there are a few places where you span an octave while playing arpeggios with other fingers. I can send you the music if you want it.
I tried the full thing when I was a younger lad. My fingers can reach a ninth just fine. But I prefer the version I play.
Lol. Guess I'm stubborn. 🤣
With me I think it’s just being lazy… 😂
Okay, riddle me this, friend. How many songs do you know how to play on piano? I'm currently clocking in at around 300 songs, including Christmas and Hanukkah songs. And I'm learning more all the time. Current song I'm learning to play is "Careless Whisper" by Wham. 😂
Oh you know a hell of a lot more than me then, but I expected you would. I half-learn songs all the time then move on to the next one before I have finished learning it 😁
Currently learning the piano version of Down in the Park by Tubeway Army. Getting a lot of “Squirrel!” Moments while I learn it as usual, so only about a quarter of the way through. If you haven’t heard it before:
Lol. Not the best practice to half learn songs, but hopefully you learn something in full soon.
Helps keep the mind sharp, especially as we get up in age. And with my ADHD especially getting stronger all the time, it helps my mind stay sharp with learning songs.
Truth be told, I hadn't learned a new song in a long time until I discovered musicnotes.com . It allows a PDF download for $3 upcharge, but it saves me the trip to the local music shop (so no need to pay for an Uber/Lyft/transport to and from there, which is far out of walking range from me). And I don't have to scan in the document to load into Piascore. I can just purchase something and get to learning.
Now that sounds like a song I'd love to learn on piano.
It's lovely, and Gary Numan is a musical wizard! I'm wishing you best of luck with learning it in full.
Do you want the sheet music for it?
I do know quite a few things in full, but it takes me time to get them finished sometimes. Just checked my sheet music that I haven’t finished learning yet:
Down in the Park
Desperado (the Eagles - singing it is way harder though as it’s really at the top of my range)
Golden Brown
Moonlight Sonata
I Don’t Like Mondays (Boomtown Rats)
Probably should start finishing a few… 😂
I'd love the sheet music for "Down in the Park", yes!
I already know "Desperado" on piano. Honestly, come January post holidays, I want to learn "Hotel California" by the Eagles as well.
The decision has already been made, but this video may help someone else with the same question when making a purchase decision:
Looks like an excellent video. Thank you for that.
Sure. I just noticed that there is a 2025 update from Fausto:
Ravenscroft is crap on the iPad, ok on a PC...sadly seems OP went with price and not quality....he will learn in time
Instead of an insult bringing my intelligence into question, how about you actually tell me what you use on iPad instead? How about you add to the conversation instead of detracting from it?
To slightly misquote Antoninus in Sparticus… I am Ravenscoft !
Lol!
Yeah, that wasn’t a particularly helpful comment. I like to hear constructive criticism of apps, but it doesn’t tell me much when someone’s opinion is just a single word.
Let alone Pax pairing that some shitty personal attack about "he will learn in time". I'm not rich. I can't afford $50 for a Pianoteq piano. Also Geotony uses Ravenscroft and creates some of the nicest sounding piano music here.

Which is quality.
Ravenscroft is absolutely fine imo! Better than fine. Enjoy
Thanks mate. I definitely am.
Yes I have a good friend that actually prefers Ravenscroft over Pianoteq
it's got a beautiful warm but rich tone!
I own pianoteq 8 and love it. Not sure if upgrading to version 9 would be worth it for me though..
Aside from that, I do like the studio pianos that come with logic.
Me too! Not least to prevent such utterly pointless comments, I posted the videos. Sounds simply say more than a thousand words, especially when the words come from someone whose qualification on the subject is also unverified.
There are so many types of pianos:
Since we tend to have a lot of EQ’s, reverbs and other “pedal” like apps you can often take one app and change it dramatically.
If the past I used to generate a lot of “muted” pianos to get something closer to a kalimba sound.
I really hope we see a modeling app similar to PianoTeq that lowers the cost for tweaking the model since it’s really powerful.
The editing features in PianoTeq are NOT duplicated in any of the other modeling options to the degree they expose the parameters of their model. You can take one of their models and get pretty damn close to other pianos by tweaking these parameters. Just playing for a Steinway or Petrof can conver a lot of territory and then additional purchases for epianos, non-pianos (harp, steel drums, etc).
It’s worth mentioning that buying PianoTeq gets you the Mac and Windows versions for one purchase fee which is how @gavinski can route around the Apple Store to benefit from piurchases made directly from Modartt. Download Pianteq 9 from Apple for free but buy your options using @gavinski’s link… a link I can’t seem to find so someone please add it here.
Aw, thanks a lot McD, this is my Pianoteq affiliate link:

Quality of Ravenscroft on iOS and desktop is exactly the same. Same samples, same velocity layers. Just a few less features (mics position, …) and settings (albeit these are enabled in background, such as a fixed 10-note polyphony for sympathetic resonance).
