Drambo, when linear arrangement view/audio tracks

Sorry if I this is the wrong place to post this, first time posting. I am an avid drambo user and have been for years. It pretty much does everything I need, except! A linear arrangement view, and audio tracks. It is so challenging to make vocals in this thing without using difficult workarounds like the sampler. It's funny because this app is so comprehensive it is almost more frustrating that it lacks an ability to record audio in a linear way because I can create almost anything else I can imagine sonically inside of it. So I thought I would reach out to see if anyone, possibly beta testers or people who know more than me, is aware of a roadmap for these features, which to me would turn this thing into the perfect daw. Thanks in advance

  • I don't think there's a public roadmap. I know some features are being beta-tested but I don't think linear arrangement or audio tracks are coming soon. You may have better luck inquiring on the Beepstreet forum, although it's not as busy as this one. https://forum.beepstreet.com/

  • Roadmap is a good point. There's so much on the long list of requests and from what I've heard, to me it seems unlikely to happen soon, given the groovebox-style, pattern-oriented workflow at the core of Drambo.
Just adding linear audio tracks won't be enough, people will want a feature-rich implementation eventually and inevitably compare it to other feature-rich DAWs.
I'd rather use Drambo as a plugin in my favorite DAW that supports audio tracks, or, if you have more than one iDevice, let your DAW and Drambo join an Ableton LINK session.

  • As @rs2000 mentioned, I'd use Drambo within a favorite DAW on iOS. Cubasis 3 and Logic Pro would be good starting points, although I'm sure you might be able to get away with Garageband.

  • Totally fair points, I just can't host auv3s in drambo when im using logic which is annoying. That and the pattern chaining is drambo makes it hard sketch out an arrangement in logic. I never use ableton link really should get into it. thanks

  • A long time ago, I wrote four pages of ideas that I thought represented an ‘improved’ Drambo. After a bit more brainstorming, I realized it was really just my personal preferences for how Drambo would best fit my workflow. The fact that this app is a one-man developer project is an incredible achievement as it stands. So, accepting the app for what it is, cherishing it, and finding the best way to use it is definitely a much easier route. 😌

  • having classing linear sequencer in Drambo would be for me massive game changer, absolute revolution .. but i am pretty sure we will NEVER see that  So let's use it just for what it is - great modular sequencer with ableton live-like session view sequencer ..

  • I’d love a linear pattern arranger/sequencer.

Something like FL studio desktops playlist feels like it would fit Drambo nicely. Flexible placement of patterns etc.

I would love a linear timeline option in Drambo too but I don't think it's going to happen, tbh.

What you say about vocals is a good point - I haven't tried this properly yet, but loading up Loopy Pro as an AUv3 processor within Drambo could provide a workflow that works. You could trigger vocal loops independently of Drambo with as long a length as you like (ie. they don't reset when Drambo's patterns change, so one loop could cover the whole song), or lay them out in the Loopy Pro sequencer. Use host sync to start the sequencer, or turn that off to have independent control over the sequencer's timing. Playing around with this for 5 minutes was interesting. One thing I want to know is whether I can get Drambo notes to trigger a particular point in the sequencer timeline. That would be helpful when first arranging the song, as at the moment with host sync on, the sequencer timeline resets every time I hit play in Drambo. It would be great to be able to set a note that triggers play from the starting bar of the chorus in Loopy Pro's sequencer when I'm also working on that chorus in Drambo's clip launcher, for example. Then when the song is finished, I can just delete any such notes if necessary.

In terms of recording the vocal loops, you can either do that independently in Loopy Pro standalone before bringing the project into Drambo, or do everything within Drambo by setting an Audio Input set to 'Ext In' from the Misc/Utility menu in Drambo and recording loops from there.

I think there's definitely potential in this! It seems like it could be pretty malleable! Sounds like one for a YouTube demo.

  • It’s true the app continues to be my go to for almost everything, this post comes off as spoiled lol. When clip launcher came out that brought it close enough to daw level that I thought we’d be seeing more daw features I think

Yea there’s many workarounds I’ve considered and they a share clunkiness like this re lining up sequences and not having them always play from the start

  • I also don’t think audio tracks are required.

It feels like it might be a distraction from what (I think) Drambo is for and what it’s so good at.
I’d imagine it’d take a lot of work to get audio track handling to a place that it’d be worth including.

I’d just like a way to arrange patterns into a song from beginning to end by arranging patterns on a timeline as opposed to triggering them from the clip launcher. This seems like it’d be easier to implement with the existing patterns system (Based on no knowledge of programming or software design, just idle uninformed speculation).

Currently I end up building tracks with the launcher just running through each launcher row, which works okay, but I often find myself thinking there could be a more elegant solution.

It’s worth noting, Drambo is so good, fun and hands on that I very rarely start tracks in Ableton or FL studio these days, the computer stays off until working on arrangements becomes more complex.
