I hope for iPad Pro M5 in 2026

How do you like the wireless transmitter/receiver? Do you use it at home? Does it help with motivation to play (i.e. reduce setup time). Is the added latency OK?

[edit] woah. It says 0.3ms latency. If that's true, virtually nobody could ever notice that.
[edit 2] ambiguous as usual with product descriptions. Elsewhere it says "under 3ms" latency. 🙄

So, back to my question ... how does it feel?

Let me start with a little background information. I live in a building where almost every apartment (one entrance = 24 apartments) has its own Wi-Fi. For this reason, I rejected all 2.4GHz devices, such as Boss WL. Then I tried a few Lekato and Swiff devices, but the sound degradation was very noticeable.
I chose the GWU4 precisely because of UHF range and its low latency, to which I am very sensitive. Even when using a cable, I am at the limit of what I find acceptable on my iPad (~8ms at 48kHz/64spls). When I add the GWU4, I notice a slight added latency, but it's still acceptable. I wasn't able to measure the RTL using the Onyx app, so I can only guess that <3ms is probably correct. The difference (cable-GWU4) I hear could be compared to the transition between 32 and 64 samples at the same frequency.
In terms of sound, the GWU4 slightly reduces the treble, but I can only notice it on clean or crunch.
I bought two pairs, and it is possible to combine the transmitter from pair 1 with the receiver from pair 2 and vice versa. This is useful because the transmitter lasts significantly less time than the receiver, about two-thirds as long, I estimate. So I just grab the second charged transmitter and can keep playing. I also like that, unlike the Boss WL, they have an on/off button, so I can keep the receiver permanently plugged into the audio interface.

Thank you! What a great answer. Everything I wanted to know. And yes, I think UHF makes a lot more sense than 2ghz or 5ghz in today's environments. It's really nice that it has an on/off switch too. I like the idea of being able to keep it plugged in. Anything that reduces monkeying around with hookups and cables is a help with getting me to actually practice. I'll just have to insist to my stubborn self that "Hey, 3ms is only the difference between being three more feet away from the sound source".

So sad that I'd be so lazy that something like plugging in a few cables would be a deterrence, but there you go. 🙄

This is going on my Christmas list this year.

Nice, I'm glad I could help you
Btw I forgot to mention one more positive observation - thanks to the GWU4, the overall noise/50Hz hum is significantly lower than with a cable.

You are right! I jumped the gun on Christmas and opened mine as soon as it arrived. Virtually all the buzz I normally get from my cheap Strat is gone, even when I plug in power to the iPad. Normally I have to resort to using a battery bank if the iPad needs charging or the noise is overwhelming. I can also now use my guitar straight to my MacBook which I didn't use to do because it would always have noise as well.

The tone is just fine too, I didn't notice any rolloff of the high frequencies and no hiss as some reviewers said they get. I also don't notice the added latency - and I'm usually pretty sensitive to that.

Having one less cable to deal with is even more satisfying than I thought it would be. In fact, I think I'll be using my larger interface tucked away under the table for better use of my limited space (my corner of the dining room table 😂).

fwiw, I chose a similar UHF transmitter from Lekato, so it's not exactly the same as yours ... but inspired by it. Thanks tons for your really helpful posts. 👍🏼

Best hardware acquisition for me of 2025 and actually for the past several years I think.

  • A few miscellaneous music related stuff:

Razer Sieren Mini V3 - a nice form factor USB-C mic. I think it looks sleek and the tap mute on top is a nice feature, though would be something to be mindful of if holding it. The cable feels gross though.

I got a Logitech MX Ergo S trackball. That thing has made my early stage carpel tunnel disappear. Really is a wrist and space saver.

My 8bitdo numpad is definitely a fun novelty.

I've got a late entry - Bastl's latest Kastle 2 instrument - the Alchemist. Like most of their devices it's tricky to describe it in a few words but it's small, clever, versatile, sounds great and is just a whole load of fun...a great feature is that once you own one of the Kastle 2 boxes you can load it with the firmware of any of the others...👍

Lekato WS-70 and "I didn't notice any rolloff of the high frequencies and no hiss as some reviewers said they get."?
You are a lucky man. I returned that Lekato also for that reason. After that I found this TGP thread (link is to my response) and this video which both fully corresponds with what I have heard.

Yeah, I guess I must be lucky, because it's working great for me. Maybe my impression is different because it's so much better than my shitty buzz and humm filled wired setup. Anyway, I'm not using it for anything other than messing around and practicing, plus my tired old ears don't work for shit. So it's all good as far as I care.

Thanks for putting up that warning for others that might be tempted toward the model I bought based on my post.

I'm intrigued now though and motivated to do some frequency response tests vs. direct cable connect.

  • Just came home with a new MacBook Pro that I bought in a Black Friday sale. So I guess installing software is going to be my afternoon today.

  • Finally got a new toothbrush! 😁

Just before you lost your last tooth 🦷

  • Nothing new, but bought an Elektron Octatrack Mk2 and an Arturia Microfreak.
    Like them both.

I got some really stellar stuff, but the LiveTrak L6 was great at just capturing things in the moment and then mixing/remixing using the stems later

Other than that, the Nanobox Tangerine was really cool and fun for the size & price. So was the Yamaha Seqtrak.

No likes in this forum? I'll start using the Flag feature then (edit: just kidding)

  • I got some incredible hardware this year!
-Osmose , a game changer for me, it’s the controller I didn’t know I needed
-dreadbox Artemis, wonderful sounding analog poly, especially when played using MPE from Osmose
-Kinotone Ribbons, awesome little box with all my favorite tape flavors
    Grateful!

already shrunk WIndoze partition and installed Linux.
iPhone is for scale (regular Pro, not Pro Max)

    DENDY,

You just want me to spend more money on gear. Digitakt 2 , micromonsta 2, etc.
You sir are an expensive influence.

In fact, i actually bough Micromosta to pair it with Digitakt 🤣 They worked really great together 🤣

How do you like the Osmose and are you familiar with the Haken Continuum?

  • I am extremely please with my M-Vave chocolate+ footswitch controller. In fact I bought a backup just in case something goes wrong with this one. I have had many foot controllers over the years but this one fits me like a glove. M-VAVE Wireless MIDI Controller Keyboard with 4 Buttons and Foot Switch, USB Charging, Rechargeable Lithium Polymer Battery, MIDI Host Interface Control Function.
It accepts an expression pedal. The programmer, CubeSuite, allows you to send all kinds of midi and keyboard messages for button up, button down, long press etc.
Even better by pressing two switches at one time you can advance banks of controls.
Use it via Bluetooth direct to my iPad or USB-c. This is a keeper 😎

That’s exactly what I was thinking but micromonstas availability in the usa is atrocious so I purchased a used op-z instead. When I can buy one with out being on a waiting list I will probably pick one up.

  • Novation Launchkey 37 MK4 controller keyboard and Adam Audio D3V desktop speakers, happy with both

  • Novation Launchkey 49 mk4

while not the best middy controller keyboard, it was dirt cheap and came with a wonderful software bundle that has been super useful beginning my Mac music making journey.

    highlights:

a choice of one of the Native Instruments Select packs which had some really useful VSTs.
a selection of GForce soft synths.
a cut down version of Ableton Live which saved me money on getting the standard version.
a cut down version of Cubase that hwile Im not getting cubase, allows use a Steinberg drum machine and Synrth.
    various other software and discounts.

very good selection for a controller around the 200 pound mark!

  • Tyler Acoustic T1 monitors.

I thought the Barefoot Footprint01's were going to be my forever monitors, but they were just too bright and in your face. A good took for mixing, but not for casual listening. Went back to Tyler speakers and SOOO happy I did.

Never played the continuum but I have the little seaboard. I’ve found with the Osmose the perfect way of expressing thru a know (for me) format as the piano keyboard, feels really natural , as touching the sound

  • So, my big hardware upgrades are in the works

First up, as of this post - earlier today my Note 9 has retired as I’m on an iPhone 15 pro max! (1tb cause papa ain’t no fool)!

First iPhone after Android from the jump of smart phones

Got first iPad 2.5yr ago, life changed

Paid off the last bit on the iPad last week, which opened up same monthly payments for 15 pro max

Haven’t done much yet, but aside from the life essential daily apps, Loopy, GeoShred and Brusfri are in my pocket for the first time, and in gorram elated!!

(Side brag, since we really are frugal in most aspects… as long as I can’t justify it for productions sake… sigh lol - Verizon sent us a Loyalty Offer of a free phone. No upgrade, no new line, no trade in, just because. My wife is on a Samsung S10, but she’s waiting on a case for her new FREE Pixel 10 Pro delivered today. Ok… $4 a month so she could get 512gig. These new phones with no expandable memory and no headphone jacks are weeeeird. And I’m ooooold

Also, going Paperless knocked off $15/mo…

We both got mad upgrades on phones, while dropping our bill by $11 per month!!

Patience and either luck or blessings (neither lost on me in the slightest) lead to this, for certain))

[I also have more specific production hardware showing up as xmas gifts… but I’m waiting til xmas to touch em. It’s tough, they’re in my closet with the kids presents… RIGHT FKING THERE lol. But photos (beautiful new photos squee) will be up as immediately as I can open em xmas morning like a child with a Nintendo 64

One of these boxes has been a long-time dream item…..]

  • I bought a new soup pan just recently, and so far, it's exceed my lofty expectations.

  • Just bought myself a Dirtywave M8. @dendy 's amazing works gave me that GAS for it as well as Jeremy's incredible (mostly) DnB album I listened to a couple months back. (Jeremy = Red Means Recording.) Once it arrives, I just gotta figure out a couple of things, and I should be all set to go!

  • Just scooped up an Orchid as an impulse buy lol 😅 only spent one night jamming with it but I enjoy it quite a bit so far!

  • I got a ferrofish pulse 8 at bargain. Boring 8 channels more.

  • Just bought an Apple-refurbished M2 iPad Air. It's going to take over the heavy lifting in my live setup from my 2017 Pro. (And no, I didn't buy a new Pro because it's overkill for my needs.)

This is my first iPad without a headphone jack. Boo. But I use a hub in my rig, and found out that I can use one of its ports with a USB-3.5 adapter to run the audio to my mixer (the other three ports receive MIDI from various controllers). Just tested it and it works great. The fun part? This 2024 machine is running through an elderly D-Link hub that's got to be almost twenty years old! :D

My iPads since 2013: iPad 3, Air (1st gen.), 2017 Pro, iPad 2018 (base model for my midi bass pedal board), Air 3, 2024 M2. Only the first two have been retired from active duty, but both still work just fine.

  • I bought lots of expensive stuff in 2025, but I’m most happy with my 5€ kazoo purchase. 😅

  • After months of getting used to it I’m finally loving my Squier CV Jazzmasters, was just so hard to control loudness and the scale length was new to me after decades of shorter scale guitars but it feels like home now… love my iPad Pro m2 but I should have done my research more closely as I just assumed the pencil pro would be fine with it. Never mind, it’ll do me for a few years I’m sure! Not got into the Zoia pedal as much as I’d thought, ended up populating a pedal board with mostly analogue stuff (which I never thought I would, but I love it!)

Got a bit of modular gear that fit my wind I still need to properly get my head round (morphaGene and spotykach) but I’ve been busy with work until recently so that’s my excuse…
